A few questions about a competition trigger job.
1) Can you get the DA weight way down (4-5#)?
2) Who can do it or is it possible to do it myself?

I had a Beretta that had an amazing trigger... DA was around 4 to 5# and SA was around 3 with no light strike issues.

This will be a range/competition gun only.

Thanks

Any I guess.

My 3913 is for CCW and is pretty nice already.

Maybe a 5903 or 05 for comp.

Peace

What make/model gun are we discussing?

EXACTLY. Without knowing the specifics nobody can even tell you if it's possible. It all depends on the geometry of the lockwork. Usually in order to get a DA trigger this light the stroke of the trigger has to be increased because in effect you are using a longer Lever to compress the mainspring.

I'm sure there is someone out there who could do a trigger job on your 590X, but since it's not a gun often seen in competition it will probably be difficult to find someone. Most IDPA or USPSA competitors use a 1911, 2011, M&P, or Glock which is the reason for a plethora of aftermarket accessories for those guns as well as a huge number of good gunsmiths who can fine tune them.

I have owned and shot all those you mentioned....I like to be different.

Peace

I agree for the most part....shooting it a lot will smooth things out, but reducing the DA helps a bunch for that first shot break.

I guess that the pro shop at S&W would do it but not sure if they would do enough...

I'm determined to use my S&W's in competition and be competitive.

Peace

For what it is worth, my brother manually cocks his DA/SA guns for the first shot and being right handed uses his left thumb as he is establishing his left hand grip.
He does this because his Right thumb is missing from the joint forward due to a horse blowup...Works well for him. I don't advocate it for everyone however.
