Hi Guys & Gals, just joined the forum and saying hello from the UK.
I have just purchased a S&W MP15-22, i thought i should come to the font of all knowledge :D and read up on as much info as i can, since you guys have had the gun in the States a lot longer than we have, i figure you must have ironed out all the kinks by now!

I have to say that i love the gun and so far i have put about
1k through it with no issues at all.
My only problem i have is the trigger i think the issue trigger is terrible and would love to put a new unit in it.

I would like to do this as cheap as possible, and also living in the UK parts are not so easily and cheaply available as they are in the States, so any recommendations would be helpful. Best regards Paul

Welcome, stonecutter! You've probably seen it already, but here's an excellent thread started recently by Allen 1 about a low-budget trigger job that requires purchasing only a lower-tension spring set for about $10. I assume that keeping the stock springs and just doing the polishing he describes would improve the feel too, but that's just a guess. I've never tried to improve a trigger, so I'll subscribe to your thread and read. Be safe and enjoy!

thanks

Hi RolandW, yes i have seen several threads about tweaking the springs & also other people saying they had tried that but then had misfires etc... I was thinking of ordering a spare spring first before i try and tweak it just in case.
Cheers paul

I watched a YouTube recently (can't find it right now) by a guy who put the yellow springs in his 15-22 and was disappointed that trigger pull was reduced only very slightly. Looks like it's not worth the trouble if the other mods aren't made too. Definitely want to remove that gunky yellow paint, IMHO. Looking forward to your report.

I did the trigger polish but still was not happy so I bent just the trigger spring so that there was just enough force to reset it. Much better but I noticed that when I pulled the trigger the hammer was cocking slightly. This told me that the sear angle was angled a little too much. I then very carefully filed a better angle on it, maybe a 1/4 degree different and polished it. Now when the trigger is pulled the hammer doesn't move so you are not squeezing the hammer spring also when firing so trigger pull is much lighter and smoother now.

Or you can spend the money and drop in areally good AR trigger that does not need any work like a Geissele, Timney, or Jard.

hello mate ...
fellow UK member...
dont mess about with any springs.. if it goes wrong its a mare to sort out, as we are the wrong side of the pond..
go to Midway uk, buy the JP spring set ( yellow) easy to fit, and about £ 20 posted !!!
Ive put about 20k rnds through mine, and except the 1st mag ( and that was a FTF) , it has never given me any probs..
use CCi minimag or the new CCI AR and you wont have any issues !!!

good luck with the mod... contact me if you have any issues..
cheers
Al.

I'm waiting for the spring kit to arrive right now, along with some Flitz. I will give an update after I'm done with the work. I'm all out of ammo and money since my trip to the range today, so it will be nice to have something firearm related to keep me busy for the next coulpe of days.
