OK I've read on here about guys using different springs and some polishing to get a better trigger action out of the 15/22.
I'm ok with the weight of the trigger pull, but the rough pull is the problem. I took my son to the range again with another .22 and noticed how big the difference is. Do I need the springs or just polish the necessary parts to smooth it out ?
and if the springs, are there options or just the JP ones ?

While you have it apart why not do both and be done with it?

Honestly for the price ($10 or so so), I just go with the jp reduced power spring kit.
Yes it reduces lbs but it also, imo, makes it more crisp. Made me much happier when I installed mine.

I agree with changing to the JP springs. They really improved the trigger pull and I think the lighter hammer spring allows the bolt to cycle easier for less issues with FTE's.

Thanks guys. I'll definitely have to go with the springs. where's the best place to get them ? I've heard about people getting nailed on shipping for a little $10 part.
I need to get a fore grip anyway, so might as well get them at the same time.

I ordered two sets from Brownell's last week. They were $25 and change, shipped. I had them two days after I ordered them. I wish the NFA paperwork went that fast. I really wanna get my barrel cut short.

I got the Hogue grip (very nice in my opinion) and the JP Springs along with a few other minor items from Midway. Shipping worked out to be minimal that way. I put the springs in and didn't do any polishing (yet) and am very happy with the difference.

Cain, I just got did my trigger last night. I installed the JP spring kit(yellow/3.5#) & polished the trigger & hammer IAW BeltFed's instructions. It is amazing how just a small amount of sanding with some 1200 grit sandpaper on the trigger could help so much. It took all of the grittiness/crunchiness out of the trigger. Then I applied some metal polish to the trigger & cycled it for awhile. Then took it apart & cleaned it. then I reinstalled it with the JP spring kit. I also installed a 1/4-28 set screw in the grip bolt hole to remove a lot of the take up in the trigger. I just went & shot the rifle a few minutes ago. Man what a world of difference compared to stock. No crunchy pull, plus a lighter pull, & very little take up. Not bad for $10.00 worth of parts & mabe an hour of my time.

Big thanks to BeltFed/Brett for the quick trigger education !!!

Just ordered my JP spring set and a Hogue grip. I'll be following the same procedures. Looking forward to the new feel.

No problem friend, hope its all you wanted and more... I told ya it was as simple as it gets... people r just afraid to mess things up.. but polishing is like nitrous, as long as you don't get stupid with it you don't have to worry about

Belt Fed - is that it to the instructions just sand a little with the 1200 then cycle through with metal polish or is that an abrieviated synposis ? My springs should be here by Monday, so I look forward to the improvement.
Any particular metal polish you recommend ?

Cain, I just used some Mothers metal polish that I had lying around in my shop.

received my springs and grip today. Hopefully will get time to put them on tomorrow. headed to the range to try them out on Monday. :D

im new to this so bear with my ignorance. are you guys just picking up the springs and using the stock trigger sanded? or are you picking up the jp trigger as well. it says 4.5 with the springs and 3.5 with the actual jp trigger. any advice would be very appreciated. just picked one of these up and its the first gun ive owned with options like this

I just went with the spring kit for now. I wanted to see if it made a difference by iteself, and it definitely does. I'm sure with the trigger it is an even bigger difference. For now I have the springs only in. I plan on sanding/polishing my trigger in the near future.

Sounds like a pretty simple upgrade. I'll have to see who'll ship these up here. Thanks for paving the way, guys!

Half Swiss, I received my springs today. The trigger spring legs are not symetrical. One leg is bent slightly out then bent parallel again. Do I just push trigger into the housing and ignore this?

Please link thread to beltfed's how to if any. Interested on this upgrade myself. Thanks.

ok I'm new at this. I want to know if you can replaced the whole trigger assembly in a 15/22 with a timney drop in or something compatible to it. I've gotten some info and it all seems to contradict itself .
Even had a guy that builds AR's tell me the MP15/22 wasn't a real AR and that it was a plastic gun so no I couldn't

Any help or good info would be greatly appreciated.

The "guy that builds AR's" apparently makes statements without doing his homework and has issues with polymer firearms. While the 15-22 differs some from it's 5.56x45 big brother, it's still an "AR" platform. You can't replace all the parts with mil-spec AR parts, but so can certainly drop in a generic AR fire control group (trigger, hammer, disconnector & associated springs)... many of the forum members have done just that.

not symetrical is not an issue

Yes, I also noticed they were not symetrical. I just put them in (only one way they can go in) and the contour of the 15-22 "lower" keeps them in position.

Trigger Adjuster/Set Screw

OK - just finished putting in a JP 3.5# trigger kit with a little polishing and could not believe the difference. I did not think I could do something like this, but the posted instructions on the site and what comes with the springs made it seem easy. Much smoother and lighter; am now considering the set screw in the grip bolt hole to help with the take up on the pull (came highly recommended by friend and armorer). He was concerned, though, about the polymer lower frame and effect it might have on the replacement screw. Anyone have some experience? Brownell's currently has the screw "drop in trigger adjuster" available from J&L Research for about $44. Can't believe it would give me anymore than I got with the JP Springs and a little polish.

a 1/4" long 1/4-28 (best i remember) set screw is about .20 cents and will do the same thing... ive got about 12,000 rds in mine since the mod with no problems. I also know of 2 other people i have walked through the process with no problems... be ware of people who say a .20 cent part wont do what their $50 part will do when its the same thing...

15/22 Trigger 101

To get a smooth trigger on 15/22 for very little money ( if you dont feel "comfee" doing this than dont but here are some suggestions for those who are thinking about this mod)

1. order the j&p 3.5 trigger spring kit $10.00

2. remove the 2 pins in the second pic. the top one should be removed first( i shouldnt have to say this but hang on to the parts they are spring loaded)

3. once they r removed you can see how they interact in the 3rd pic (i didnt bend the hammer spring around because i didnt want to chase it.. and the disconect is removed so that there is no confution on what needs to be polished) these points are the ones that need to be polished

4. after cleaning up those surfaces reinstall new spings and then reinstall into lower... it really is that simple

5. is the optional set screw to remove pre travel in the trigger if you remove the grip screw it can be inserted in under it and pokes threw like in pic 4

hope this helps

and im sorry for the crappy pics i used my phone
