Trigger pre-travel in Shield after Apex trigger install

I just installed the APEX Shield Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Trigger and Kit in my Shield.

I also have installed in both (S&W M&P 9mm FS, S&W M&P 9C) the Apex M&P Polymer Forward Set Sear and Trigger Kit

What I notice most between the Shield and the 9mm FS/9C is the amount of pre-travel in the Shield prior to sear pick-up. Pre-travel prior to sear pick-up is 5/16” in the Shield vs 2/16” in the 9C.
.
The pre-travel in the Shield was not reduced at all from what I can tell. I was expecting a similar trigger after the install on the Shield to what I have in the 9mm FS/9C.

Has any on else noticed this?

Is there anything else I can do?

I also plan I re-installing the S&W trigger return spring. From what I read here in the forums it is lighter than the spring Apex provides. Trigger still seems to be a bit heavy to me compared to my other S&W M&P's.

Thanks

Thanks

The FSS kit will reduce travel the DCAEK will not. The DCAEK Shield spring is 4lbs. There is no FSS kit for the Shield. Since the Shield is meant for carry APEX obviously don't want a shorter trigger pull. Someone here could probably tell you how to get around this but it's a carry gun not a range gun.

Using the factory trigger spring will reduce the trigger pull. The DCAEK (duty/carry) kit is different than the FSS kit. The FSS kit radically changes the timing, thus almost no pre travel. The Duty carry kit smoothes the trigger and lightens it some. If you want your trigger to have less pre travel, also install the Apex polymer trigger. It will reduce the pre travel by about 30%. For the darling husband and I, this was the perfect set up for our carry guns (9c's).

Thank you for clearing this up for me.

I just reviewed Apex's web and now see the difference.
It would appear the actual Apex trigger is what makes a kit a FSS.

If anyone has suggestions for reducing the pre-travel I am all ears.

Thanks

Pre-travel is largely controlled by the little loop on the end of the trigger bar. Open it up a bit to reduce pre-travel. be sure not to open it too much or you'll get no reset (but then, you can simply reduce the opening to get it back). You can remove almost all of the pre-travel this way.
