Triplelock value?

I have decided to sell a triplelock. I would like some idea of current selling prices. I won't be selling this here since I have a commited to sell it to a friend. Any opinions wanted. My guess is 1700 for a value but maybe I'm wrong. It is a shooter. The DA pull has a tiny spot of resistance half way thru. The buyer knows this and will fix it. Carry up OK and lock up OK. Grips are some kind of stag.

It has been lettered. It was refinished by S&W in 1945. It shipped 1915. It came to me with the adjustable sight. The front sight is a pinned blade. The pics are a pretty good image of the finish. Sunlight makes a big difference compared to indoor lighting.

The barrel is 5 inches long.

If it letters as an original 5" I would say that you are pretty close on value.Is the front sight blade pinned in?

I have agreed to sell it to a friend, I am trying to get the opinions of some other folks for a value. It is tough to find selling prices for a comparable example so I am asking for other thoughts on value. I have been buying for years, I only recently decided to sell some to convert them to cash. I have sold some milsurp handguns already, they are common compared to TLs.

Perhaps others will comment on the sights as I have never seen them before and do not know if they are factory original or not. However, if you intend to sell this to a 'friend', as you say, how about just selling it for a fair price, and not necessarily top dollar or full retail, as it is a 'friend' and not just someone off the street?

The rear sight looks like an FDL "Wondersight" that utilizes a longer upper sideplate screw to convert any S&W service/fixed-type rear sight into an adjustable sight for more acurate shooting, especially with handloads. These were marketed during the 1950s.

From my view it is shooter grade, refinished, missing original grips. I wouldn't pay $1700 for it. I might consider it at $1000 because I like stag grips and would value them in the $300 range. I don't keep up with the recent market either. back in 2009 I sold 4 triple lock shooters at $450 each at Tulsa.

Thanks for the replies. It seems 1700 is high and 1000 is lowest. Considering what I have in it (maybe paid too much) I will split the diff and sell at 1350. I'm sure the new owner will be pleased with a lower price.

It letters as a 5 inch barrel. I am guessing that a former owner wanted the option of changing sight height.

OK,I did not know it had been lettered.I will say this,I would be more than happy to get that Gun for $1,350.If for some reason your Friend passes...Look me up

Come on guys! Most of you would kill to get this triple lock for $1350!! Even if the grips are not original if they are stags they are worth more than the price of the original grips. The rear sight can be removed putting it back to original.
Yes, it was refinished but it was by S&W, not bubbas plating. And how many 5" triple locks have you seen lately? Lettered triple locks?
I think your original price of $1700 was more than fair. I would bet my left gonad that if you put it for sale on this forum at $1700 it wouldn't last 5 minutes!!

The gun is sold unless the buyer crawfishes. He was happy with the price reduction. I should have waited for more opinions huh? He already bought a Chilean 7mm 1912 short rifle, S&W 1950 44 target, this triplelock, and likely will buy a 65-3 3inch. I will look at it as a package discount. He is a member of a local club and will give the TL a good home. I am just not used to selling. I have sold about 15 guns in the last month, it has not been difficult to sell the old ones. This particular buyer had little interest in anything built before 1960. He is a lever rifle collector/shooter.

Thanks for posting the added photos. I will not comment on the price except to say that $1300 is much closer to what I think is right. There are some very high figures tossed around here for sure.
It is a very nice revolver and I think you both did well.
