I believe the man and his son were wrong. What they did was in effect an armed home invasion, no matter their motives. We as gun owners need to carefully consider the consequences of any armed actions we take, else we might find ourselves in a world of hurt, just like Rambo and Rambo, Jr. It particularly galls me that the idiot would justify his actions by invoking the 2nd Amendment.

Too many people think they have an authority like a cop.

Couple weeks ago I had a serious "discussion" in which the person told me, if he has a CCW he is allowed to get out there, catch bad people and the law is on his side.

I just don't get it sometimes...

These morons deserve jail time.

Their reckless actions precisely resembled that of a home invader waiting for the homeowner to come in for entry. The bad guys wait in ambush for the victim to pull keys to open the door, when they come out guns drawn demanding entry. Such attacks by felons usually end with dead or traumatized victims.

Had these fools done this on my property, the police would have arrived to three bleeding and /or dying men lying in a pile of spent casings. I doubt im alone in stating that if a stranger pulls a weapon at my doorstep and demands I put my hands up, that's easily interpreted as a violent assault. Fortunately for them these morons held up unarmed people who had no choice but to wait until the police showed up. The consequences could have been fatal for everyone involved.

This echos a real-life [rather than online] conversation I had just yesterday regarding carry, the law and what it would take to screw it up. It boiled down to "we all know 'that one guy'..." We all know that one guy who has firearms that, should the feces hit the rotating blade device for moving air...everything that can go wrong will go wrong, all because of poor planning and bad decisions. He is "that one guy" who, when we see him at the class reunion the first thought to come to our head is "Damn, how is he still alive???".

He's the guy we walk behind so we can keep an eye on him as we do anything as a group.

What we have to most be concerned about is too many of "that one guy". He is one of us but he is our own worst enemy, even more than my peers over on the left of this issue because it will be a stack of "that one guy" who gets their attention.

I immediately thought of a fellow me and my best friend had to take quail hunting every year. We both stayed behind him, and when the dogs pointed, we would try to get a tree between us and him. I just said a prayer for the dogs, hoping he wouldn't shoot them. He was a first cousin of my friend and he came every Christmas for a one-day hunt. He wasn't particularly careless, but when the birds flushed, it was anybody's guess where he was going to shoot.

Your point about a multitude of "that one guy" being a worse enemy than the leftists is well taken. It is amazing at the folks on a Georgia forum are justifying the actions of the idiots in this particular case.

i really really dislike morons like this. these are the same types of guys who see a movie and decide to start a "militia" for when "china" "attacks" "us"......

not insulting REAL constitutional militias because i know they are out there and mean good but you get my point haha

A couple of bungling idiots trying to be bad. They should have simply called the police and waited. These people weren't on the two guy's property,so IMO opinion they were wrong in confronting them, especially with weapons.
"Shut up,or I'll shoot?" Since when does not shutting up constitute being shot?

I don't think the police did a very good job either.

That's what happens when your perspective and training come from the Internet and tv.

Would I have been armed when I went to investigate? You betcha! Threat assessment would have immediately de-escalated the situation to a conversation and welcome to new neigherbors. Odds are, they would have never known I was carrying.

It's a shame maturity can't be taught.

The level of stupidity here boggles the mind.
I loved the "come on down to the police station and bring your guns".
Is somebody kidding.
Hell of a way to do a felony arrest.

Unfortunately, considering the level of discourse on those local forums, it doesn't amaze me at all.

There seems to be a tendency for a lot of people to circle the wagons when it comes to gun issues and defend the indefensible. A real all or nothing, yer with us or agin' us right down the line attitude.

It's the same in my mind as people who go nuts when it's pointed out that Glocks and similar pistols are by their design inherently less forgiving than other designs, just like some table saws, automobiles, you name it, are safer/more forgiving than others. Just a fact of life and engineering.

Similar discussions go on about Serpa holsters.

Too many people think since they have a gun or a permit, all of the sudden they're a deputy sheriff.

It was a forclosed house with no one living there. Common sense would say that the house didn't have much in it. So they made sure they protected... the light fixtures? From a couple around 60 years old? And they thought it was forclosed which meant they thought the bank owned it. Good job morons.

Well, they did show both families on WSB news tonight exchanging hugs. The father and son were given cupcakes by the victims and they each promised to be good neighbors to the other. It was pointed out that they are still facing charges for, I think, reckless endangerment and false imprisonment.
