I couldn't be more pleased shooting the TRR8 and M&P R8 with the Aimpoint Red Dot. Such tight groups DA and SA. Last year, Aimpoint replaced the T-1 with the T-2.

BELOW IS A BIT OF A REPORT IF YOU'RE POTENTIALLY THINKING AIMPOINT

When I ordered the Aimpoint T-2 Micro (Aimpoint - Micro T-2), there were three main reasons I bought it. 1. A major LE distributor told me the agencies that had ordered this exact optic; 2. Reviews were universally glowing with this replacement to the venerable T-1, some reviews were almost giddy. 3. I was able to receive Aimpoint's law-enforcement purchase price which was huge because MSRP is $846, although it can be had for around $800 such as Midway (almost always out of stock). So I bought it. HOWEVER, there is a Sig Sauer model, a Romeo 4 I looked at for around $400 that was almost as vibrant and crystal clear - however, it did not have the resistance for extreme environments (which I'm certain I don't need). Is the Aimpoint worth almost two Sig Sauers? No. Am I happy with the Aimpoint? Overwhelmingly so. I never considered the EO Tech because I didn't want to try and unravel the warnings, at least three, that the Army has issued about certain EOT's sights losing their freedom from parallax and moving 4 MOA under certain conditions.

When the sight first showed up I bought 100 rounds of Federal Premium LE HydraShok 129 Grain in .38 +P to zero but barely needed any (zeroed at 25 yards, at 50 yards -1.6"). Once mounted the sight was dead center. It took five minutes to mount the top rail, and about two minutes to mount the optic with the Aimpoint supplied tool (that is pretty high quality and handy). I also tested with Remington Golden Saber. 125 Grain at 1220 FPS. And some High Velocity Federal .357 Magnum.

The optical clarity is amazing, reminiscent of Swarovski, and very bright. Interestingly, while with the naked eye you get a razor sharp red dot, with reading glasses on you get a tiny cluster of eminently small red dots.

As you can see, the micro version of the Aimpoint certainly doesn't look too large on my TRR8 revolver (as does the one that S&W supplies on one of it's PC 629's). And since my TRR8 and M&PR8 use a standard Picatinny rail, it's an easy transfer to my patrol rifle, and I have actually seen this site on a rifle but with the 3X magnifier on the rail as well.

The weapon at a scant length of 2.7 in., width: 1.6 in., height: 1.4 in., and
weight: 3.4 oz., it looks at home on my M&P R8.

So there's plenty of review on the internet, so that's all I'll have to say absent of any specific questions that may follow. I'll just say if you don't need the magnification of a pistol scope, you won't regret the stout price of the Aimpoint once it's delivered to you.

NOTE: The S&W supplied Hogue rubber Monogrips are too narrow for my hands; the Hogue Rosewood Monogrips while not as tactical looking if that matters, solves that issue and swapped out in a couple of minutes.

Finally, it is a rush to shoot super tight groups in double action, no wonder you guys with optics at the Steel matches are so fast.

I just send an e-mail to Jan at Simply Rugged holsters thanking her for the TRR8 Sourdough Pancake Holster; and, asking if there was anything they had or could make for the weapon in picture 3 above (TRR8 with optic).

ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS???

Thanks!

I too am one of the biggest TRR8 fans on earth and that thing looks awesome!!! Go to the speed beez site and look up TRR8 holster they offer. I think that rig may be a winner for you!! Let me know and keep shooting that thing!

Thanks Rick!

I love the Speed Beez Outside the Waist Band S&W 627 5 Inch Tactical Revolver Holster. The web site says that it, "Fits any Smith & Wesson 5 Inch N-Frame." Can you advise if that will still be true with my M&P R8 which is identical to my TRR8, but has the permanent light rail as pictured by S&W below. They are on sale right now for $59! That is a nice savings over the $190 Simply Rugged scoped revolver holster that approaches $300 if you get the chest strap option.

I continue to be so pleased with the Aimpoint and drilling five to eight inch groups in DA at 25 yards, something I could never do freehand with iron sights. When I was zeroing the Aimpoint with a Shooting Rest Bag at 25 yards, my SA group was under 1.25" (Federal Prem. Law Enforcement .38 +P Hydra-Shok 129 Grain JHP). This weapon is as accurate as my Wilson Combat 1911 and that ammo only drops 1.6" at 50 yards. We'll see with the M&P R8 - I haven't even shot that yet.

A final nice surprise is when I took the optic off to re-tighten the picatinny rail mounting screws, when I put it back on, it had stayed zeroed - didn't expect that, hope it wasn't a fluke. Still amazed at how a 35 ounce Scandium Frame handles big load .357 Magnum so well.

Challenge has been shooting .357 Magnum loads approaching 600 ft. lbs. because those big boys shook the screws loose that attach the top rail to the barrel. I retorqued them down as tight as I dare, but if they come loose again I'll use Loctite Blue which will fix it no doubt (probably even Loctite purple would). So far so good.

While I'm in Novokuznetsk next month on business both the M&P R8 and the TRR8 are going to TK Custom for defensive action jobs (I did the same thing with two 627's and a 586 L-Comp). They're pretty good already.
