As long as you don't use a heavy optic ( 6 oz. Or heavier) you might be fine. Also note, attaching the top rail will scratch the top of the shroud. At least it did on mine.

For lights, expensive=Surefire (enter model # here), modest= Streamlight (various models here). I believe both are solid lights and incredible pieces of technology. Surefire is like military tested and approved, Streamlight is civilian tested and approved.
Red Dots, gold standard is Trijicon RMR. Streamlight me of the red dot world would be the Holosun (various model numbers). I believe most pistol red dots have provisions for connecting to the pic rail that will be on your revolver.

Surefire, and Trijicon RMR are as good as it gets.

The Trijicon SRO is a great option. The window is huge and you can replace the battery without having to remove the sight. Unfortunately the pic rail + the pic mount puts the dot a little high over bore. Trijicon makes a RMR/SRO direct mount that replaces the rear sight on S&W revolvers factory tapped for a scope. I'm looking at trying this option out but haven't done it yet.
So I'm wondering if this will fit? Overall length is 4" Thanks.
