Hodges has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 1992 for burglary, numerous thefts, driving under the influence, drug charges, aggravated assault, numerous failures to appear, unlawful possession of a weapon, driving while privilege revoked, criminal trespassing, violation of probation, possession of burglary tools.

But he was just turning his life around.

I heard his Mother on TV. "He was such a good boy"

That's in there too. See the sidebar:

"Loudon County resident James Hodges talks about the pride he felt when he earned his GED in jail through Knox County Schools Adult Education program at Historic Knoxville High School on Dec. 16, 2008. Hodges was shot dead at 2:30am, March 11, 2009 as he tried to break in a semi-tractor trailer at 10720 Lexington Drive while the driver was asleep in the sleeper cabin."

Guns are a BIG no no in a CDL vehicle.

Aside from applicable state laws regarding guns in vehicles and possibly company policies, how are commercial vehicles different?

I'd like to know the specific laws involved.

This is true when running down the road.

Wonder if his rig is considered an "RV" if he is sleeping in it on private property. In my state, a parked RV on private property is treated like a home.

Yes you are right, Guns and weapons are a no-no for truckers.I dont understand why?Drove for a while and that is what my boss told me. I wonder what will happen to the truck driver?

There is no federal law that prohibits firearms in a CDL vehicle. It will fall under the applicable State or local laws as to whether the possession is legal or not.

Looks like the Trucker was using necessary force to deter imminent bodily harm and had a very reasonable fear that such would be used upon him, especially that a rock was thrown thru the window of his truck in which he slept prior to this contact.Next you will hear he was only robbing to get the cash to pay for Harvard Medical School. At least the taxpayer won't be paying for the BS and MS degrees obtained in prison .......Trucker 1 Scumbag 0.......God Bless....Mike

If the driver gets hung out to dry it will be because of this: The skank attempted to get in the truck an left. He then broke the window out and left. He did this to make sure no one was watching and that the truck was empty. He then came back and entered the broken window where he was promply blown to Hell. (I don't think he qualified for the other place) Some prosecutor might argue that the driver waited in ambush and that his actions were premeditated. I would much rather this happen in Tennesee than California. He may actually get a medal in Tennessee considering the skank's history...a long sentence in an anti-gun state. Be careful where you exercise self-defense.

Unfortunately, the driver is in deep kimchee. Weapons beyond a knife of 4 inches is a definite No-no. That is federal law. I always thought that sucked.

Please cite which regulation that is.

That's the first thing that came to mind with me too. Sort of surprising that when a cop b*** slaps someone for mouthing off, a lot of people want his head, but when a truck driver lays in wait to waste someone for trying to steal, his CB radio, people think he deserves a medal. This shooting wouldn't even fly in states where it's not a crime to shoot a non-violent fleeing felon. The guy should be prosecuted. Let a jury decide what kind of medal he deserves.

Can someone post the federal laws that prohibits guns in commercial vehicles? I imagine there's an exception for armored cars/bank delivery trucks....

I'll bite: WHAT "federal law" prohibits any "weapons beyond a knife of 4 inches?"
