I have been trying for a few days to get my best friend that I have known since high school to go to the ER and get checked out. He has been having double vision and headaches for almost a week. He went to a optometrist who obviously was not much. Since it has not gotten any better he finally asked me to take him in this morning when I called to check on him. I had a feeling it was more than just a eye issue because his eyes were not pointing in exactly the same direction and one of his pupils was larger than the other. They took him in to get CT scans and he has a aneurysm. They go in through the blood vessels in the groin tomorrow morning and have told him he will be there 2 or 3 days.

To distract myself from thinking too much about it all I started detail stripping and cleaning the 1998 Yamaha Stratocaster that came in before lunch today, right before I took him to the ER. It is helping me stay calm, although I kinda wish I had some of whatever they are giving him to keep him calm. :)

A pic of the non-functional Strat here. I think the volume pot is shot as I get nothing from any of the 3 pickups. Plus, when I disconnected them from the old wiring I measured them all with my multimeter and they all show continuity. So looks like all new wiring is in the cards for this one.

On a lighter note, I got a 'chin up' text from my eldest niece when she heard about Jeff's issues. Seems her fiance is trying to teach her the Ukulele. I told her I would bring them one of the guitars I rebuilt as a upgrade the next time I take a road trip to see them.YamahaStrat1.jpg

Hoping for the best possible outcome for Jeff. John, you're a good friend.
Now, about that guitar, finish needs work. what ya thinking?
A lot of it cleaned off with some alcohol. I am mainly a proponent of leaving the finish as is. I will add some thin super glue to the spot where the finish chipped off down to the wood so it will keep it from expanding and provide some cover for the bare wood. It boggled my mind that there was 4 different kinds of screws holding the pickguard down. Almost half of them small bolts instead of screws. I get the feeling I will be drilling out and plugging a LOT of screw holes on this one. Probably replace pretty much all the smaller screws. There was even a off size screw on one of the pickups.

I am hoping that some day you come across a real steal to restore. maybe like a Gibson Kalamazoo, an Epiphone Les Paul Custom or a Fender Mustang. American made of course. I like short neck guitars.
