Hi
I was able to find this 1917 converted to Target some time after 1935. It is a very good conversion they used a Reg Mag. rear sight and a Smith and Wesson period front sight.
Who every did the conversion did as good as the factory conversion I have seen.
The 1917 has all original finish and has a very nice action. condition is about 95%.

I have one of the original 1917 targets from the factory and I could not force my self to shoot
it. It is one of less than 5 made and is in 98+ condition. I have been wanting to find one to shoot, so as soon as it gets above 20 or 30 degrees I will try it out.

The grips are Keith Brown non relieved Coke Targets with Pre War Medallions.

Beautiful! Can't you just open a window or stand at the back door and let fly??? Or maybe you live in town...I have to remember, not everyone in Montana has a range out their back door.

I also have a 1917 with factory sights added. Now I know why the hump behind the rear blade is serrated, it must also have an RM rear sight.
Redfield front blade.

Micro site copy of King double cockeyed hammer. It's dark but the 'M' in Micro can just be made out on the side just below the hammer nose rivet.

I'm a lifelong Texan and there's no way I'd let cold weather keep me from shooting that beauty. Drive out to the boonies and shoot out the window. Just be sure the gun all the way out the window and wear hearing protection.

Better yet, send it to me. I'll test fire it and send you the videos:-)

Jim, Ya gotta move to sunny southern Calif ! It was 91 degrees & sunny two days ago. Now we are having a cold spell - today was down to 77 degrees. I'm burning my S&W boxes to keep warm ! I also have a target Model 1917, converted by Springfield Armory for Army pistol team. It has drift adjustable rear sight, as required by NRA rules for military pistol matches. Ed.

beautiful gun. could it have been converted at the factory?

Hi
Alex the sight is un numbered and the work is as good as the factory the sight fits perfect
no side play. The sight had to have come from the factory by order or it was a lunch box
job done at the factory. the front sight is perfect also unable to tell it from factory work.

Hi
Well you guys have made me go out and shoot this revolver. It is 5 degrees here the sun is out and no wind. so here is the target I shot last 6. I shot a total of 18 rounds.
Got it dialed in needs a little more adjusting but it is a keeper.
Shot at 25 feet offhand I think I can do better when it gets nicer.

Jim,
I worked for a gunsmith for a number of years in S. Kalifornia. His name was George Mathews and he was an old school smith, that did excellent work. He used to convert 1917's on a regular basis for the old 2700 match shooters and I would challenge anyone to pick them out from a factory conversion. George would always ID his conversions with his initials under the grips. He was also honest---like I said old school. By the way, I'm in North Idaho and it is butt freezin cold here right now, too. But I had rather be butt freezin cold than live back in that gun grabbin, communist state of kalifornia at 77 degrees. Besides, the weather there was boring.

Should have gone to Tulsa

Well now I know where I should have been last weekend. Now the question does anybody make a repro of that rear sight or anything close? I to have a mp that was hacked apon and I think a target conversation in in order. I hate to say it but some of the gunsmith specials are my favorites in my safe. I don't think that would have even made it into the house before I put a few rounds though it. I race daylight home after Tulsa every every time I go.
