TURNING YOUR BACK?

WHY?

In the not so distant past I;ve been ask why I still loaded for 9mm & 38spl-- now those folks know. A abundance of ads are trying to lure people in with free shipping etc..I'm just not buying it.

I'm good on all calibers, some better than others.

I'm good for at least a year before I need to buy anything, and that of course depends on how much shooting that I get to do.

I'll wait until I consider the prices low enough to purchase.

Apologies for hijacking the thread, but what's your take on why they would be reluctant to join the NRA?
I re-joined after a many year absence because it was a requirement to join a local range....no other reason.

Luckily I have a second email account when I rejoined, I immediately started getting the panhandling emails.
Please give us more money for this....
Please give us more money for that....

And then there are the phonecalls begging for money. Blocked 'em.

I know they have done a lot of good, but I'm sick of being badgered by Wayne and his minions.

Put me down as waiting for sane prices to return before I knock the cobwebs off my wallet.

A lot of people have hated the big box stores, but places like Walmart never raised their prices during the drought and they kept other stores prices down to be competitive with them. Now Walmart is out of the handgun ammo business because of political pressure so other stores can charge whatever they want. At least we still have Academy Sports around here and they had huge stacks of ammo the other day and I bought Winchester 9m/m for $17.99 per 50 rds and .223 for $11.99 for 20 rds. Not as cheap as it use to be but not terrible.

I have enough to last me for a while, and just picked a case of 7.62 x 39 up for about $350 at ammoman. My primary arm in that caliber is my CZ 527, a mini-Mauser bolt-action.

Then too, my health and the weather have not been too cooperative lately, so I don't shoot as often as I did.

A couple of months before COVID hit I realized that I was very low on 9mm. Not sure how it happened, but it did. I went into Academy one day and they had 500 round boxes of Winchester White Box 9mm for $99 a box with a three box limit. That's .20 cpr. Not sure if their three box limit at the time really applied to 500 round boxes, but the checkout gal checked me out with them, so I guess it did. Later that day I went in with my wife and she got the last two 500 round boxes for me. Total score in one day 2500 rounds at .20 cents per round. No more 9mm ammo shortage for me, lol. Right place, right time.

I think it is starting to turn around. I am seeing greater availability as well. My opinion is that prices will start to fall as retailers realize that it is sitting and as you know in retail you have to move the merch.

I have even seen powder as well. Once the primers become available prices will fall. I think they will be a bit higher than pre-CV19 dues to the rise in lead copper etc.

But prices will come down.

The large local gun store I frequent has gone from being totally bereft of ammo to having cases of all sorts of ammo stacked wall to wall and floor to ceiling.

The online vendors I’ve bought great quantities from in the past have gone from virtually nothing in stock, to offering a pretty good selection albeit at still absurdly high prices.

It certainly appears that prices are being held at unreasonably high levels and I won’t be buying ammunition until prices reflect the true market conditions.

Firearms prices have been dropping precipitously, yet ammunition vendors are still pricing at “height of panic” levels.

In fact, there are online vendors who are advertising for customers to use financing when purchasing ammo.

It’s absurd.

I'm doing my part.

Scalpers who prey on the needy by hoarding necessities such as medical supplies and fuel of all forms, (food/drink/ammo/etc) creating an artificial shortage, then sell their wares at inflated prices are the lowest form of opportunistic scum in my book, so like heck am I going to contribute to their success in such morally bankrupt business practices.

I am however grateful to them for providing a reminder to always stock up on supplies and store them during times of prosperity in preparation for times of trouble, as their parasitic tendencies to feed off of society when its down, making everything worse in the process at the first sign of weakness serves as a compelling reminder that we should always strive to be strong and self-sufficient so that we don't fall prey to such pathetic creatures who evidently cannot succeed on their own merits so they have to take advantage of the desperation of others to turn a profit as a simple merchant.
Ironically, these guys seem to fancy themselves as shrewd businessmen too, as if it's somehow challenging to turn a profit by selling necessities to desperate people during a shortage, or wealthy people who are willing to overpay for the sake of convenience. Fortunately for them, things have never gotten so desperate that folks haven't completely turned on them...yet.

So yeah, no worries here, they won't make a dime off of me, nor should they from anyone else.
Wait until ammo comes back, as it has already begun to, buy a box of ammo every here and there, maybe one box per paycheck if you can afford to, and I guarantee by the next ammo shortage you won't even feel it.

LGS has more ammo now than pre panic times. Has had so throughout most of the time.

Prices have gone from totally ridiculous ($90 for 50 rds. steel case monarch) to still way to high (same box now at $49). But all his ammo has the "triple sticker" price on it showing he is now on his second discount. He's still high and has more stock that before so I expect he will be bringing it down little by little.

The place I shoot at has stacks and stacks of 9mm, .40, and 45 ACP in cases on the floor. You can hardly move around in the place. They had a big “sale” a couple weeks ago where members could buy by the case instead of the two box maximum ($22 a box for S&B ball). Its all still there.

They finally got some .38 Special in - Magtech 158 lead for $35 a box. I passed.

I suspect they overpaid. They are about to learn the cruel lesson of supply and demand.
