Picked up two 469's. One with Pachmayr grips, the other with the standard black plastic ONE piece (not two piece).

Found out I couldn't interchange them because the frames are different. Both marked 469. Trigger guards are also different.

Genitron doesn't show these variations. What do I have here?

This one almost certainly went back to S&W for a repair and they replaced the frame, transferring the serial number to the new frame. That's a 3rd gen frame (and not an early one).

Does it have two safety dots on it? 469s had them on the slide, 6904s had them on the frame so that one should/may have both.

If you call, (or email,) S&W CS you'll probably get a shipped on date past the end of the 469 run.

My stamped "669" was shipped midway into the 6906 run. There was no record of it going back but it obviously had. New 6906 frame with the same model and serial numbers as the original 669.

I was hoping it was special or transitional but nope just a returned cracked frame.

After 469/669 production ended, a 469 or 669 that went back to the factory with a damaged receiver was most likely going to end up being returned to its owner with a 6904 or 6906 receiver bearing the 469 or 669's serial number.

Thanks all for the replies. Is definitely a 69xx series frame. I'm guessing these aren't all that special or uncommon?
Not particularly, since in all likelihood it was a 469 that was damaged beyond repair and S&W replaced the receiver. I know many swoon over the 469/669, but in all honesty, the third generation pistols were the best of the breed.

How about this one?

It's a 669 frame with the shorter squared guard (6906 squared guards were longer and later rounded) and no safety dot on the frame but it has the one piece grip. It also has dovetailed sights, Novak rear.

The hammer looks to be at half cock, so at least some 669 internals too. I like it! BTW does it have ambi safety?

Nope. Single sided.

I think I need to remove the red dot on the slide because it's decock only.
