Thee mood struck me today to maybe try my hand at another post, maybe the acquisition of transitional 357 is causing my head to swell a little  and suddenly I felt inspired to share a few of our guns. There are so many great guns shared on this forum, it makes for some very tuff and intimidating competition, in any case thanks to Lee and the gang for providing a platform for us to share and learn from others.

These are two of our long tube 357s, one older and one newer. The pinto shipped July of 1954 and is by far and away one of my favorites in our collection. It is wearing a set of factory smooth Rosewood targets (non relieved) which letter to the gun. The 27-2 is wearing a set of KB Ropers, that are made from Purple Heart Wood, and have medallions inserted to add some uniqueness.

The ammunition in both boxes is period correct to the guns (or at least very close) as well as the SATs which were shipped with the guns. The 27-2 has its original wood pres box and shipping carton as well but it was to hard to configure it into the shot. I am no photographer so please go easy. I hope everyone enjoys them.

I love that Pinto. So far, I'm the only one that has commented on this thread that doesn't have one :(

Kris. I'm the second poster. I've been patiently waiting for Nate to show off that Pinto. Amazing isn't it. Nate, this post only means one thing. WE WANT TO SEE MORE!!

Thanks for sharing.

Nice pictures Nate, I am partial to the long tubes. I look forward to more pictures.

Regards

I really like Pinto's Nate thanks for posting it.
Good to see you posting some too.
I didn't think Marines got intimidated

Paul, as a 357 collector I have often been intimidated by the postings of one RKmesa in paticular, who I have not had the pleasure of meeting but seems to have all the guns I wish I did. I aspire to get as close as I can to something that resembles his collection as well as a few others around here that have some very fine 357s. Thanks for the compliment.

Mitch, I am with you on the long tubes, especially pre 27/postwar 8 inch guns. It is my opinion they are heavily underestimated in term of collectability. In addition the long barrels are great for making long shots on silhouettes. My grail gun is a 8 3/4 RM (well one of my grail guns) thanks for the compliment its appreciated.

That IS a very high mountain....go marine.

I just want to see some of the climb

GREAT POST

Nate:

I have been lucky to have had the opportunity to acquire some beautiful guns over the years (often times from the good members of this forum) and one of the things that I and many others like about this board is that it is a friendly and safe place to show and tell. I don't come here to look at my own guns so THANK YOU so much for sharing some photos of those beauties!!!:cool::cool: I love the long-tube full size 357s and those are two of the nicest that I have seen. FYI, the pinto long tube pre-27 you are displaying is one of my grail guns and a large hole in my long-tube 357 collection. Since I do not have one that I can look at, you sharing photos of yours is the next best thing.

Amen, amen, amen!!! I could not agree more - that long barrel has an elegance that shorter barrels can only aspire to have.:) BTW - please try and keep this quiet, for when they are discovered most people can't get enough of them and it drives up the price.

My grail gun is a 8 3/4 RM (well one of my grail guns) ...

They are worth looking for - to return the favor, here are a couple of photos of one of my favorite RMs:

Elegance ... pure elegance...:)

Good show, Gentlemen.

I love these old magnums but have gone in another direction. Oh hope I don't get sucked in. I fear I don't have the energy to start over.

Just look what happened to my buddy Jim:rolleyes:;)

Richard & Nate...

No wonder I picked 2 such friends...You both have collections I only can dream of...So...I have come up with a great idea....You both know I love the 3.5 inch 357...

Nate...You send me the 3.5 Inch Engraved beauty I hope you show off soon...
Richard...You send me one of those Engraved Pinto 3.5's

I will return the favor by promising to stalk gunbroker and other sights to find you wonderful pieces of smith and wesson history...Sound Good??

Deal???:D:D:D

I, too, love all of these long barreled revolvers that you folks are showing! I do not own any, but the saying "there's more to love" comes to mind.:) Especially when the "more" is a long barrel on a pre-27 or model 27!

Thanks for the compliment on the magnums. What exactly did happen to your buddy Jim?

My buddy Jim Brewster. He used to hang out with me in the 1980 forums until he got a taste of the bright blue. Now he has these magnums on the brain and like me, he will devote himself to collecting and learning about them.

As you now know, Jim is a fierce friend and has put me on to a grail gun of mine in the past. He is one of the most selfless collectors to be found, and has a scary nose for hard to find pieces.

I am an obsessive person by nature: all in or all out. While I have dipped a toe in your kind of water, I still swim in newer guns (70's - 90's). I am afraid that if I linger here too long, I may just turn over my collection.

But I digress. You have a collection to be proud of; thank you for sharing.

Both You and Jim have yet to move the the deepest depths of S&W addiction....Pre War N frames. You will do just about anything to get the cash for a pre war beauty,Gone are the days of spending $750-$1,000 on a Gun.Proceed with extreme caution!
