No, but it should be too big, since it's made for a K frame. The proper size for th J frame is a #1.
 
It will work but the fit is sloppy, it impacts the appearance but not the function.
 
That's an interesting question. I have a J frame (642) but no grips that leave the grip frame exposed.

I took a couple pictures of a #3R (RB k frame) on the frame of the 642. The first pic. is with the Tyler t resting on the frame. Leaves a little gap at the trigger guard.

The second picture is with the Tyler T pull away and sitting flush with the frame where it would be resting on the grips. fills the area about perfect.

I have a polished Tyler T with a casting flaw that will not polish out. I'll give it to you if you want to test the fit and report your findings back here.

I will take you up on that offer. I have a 642-1 and a 49 I would try it on.
