Ordered a T grip #1 in gloss black from Tyler Manufacturing in late August. It arrived today (Nov. 29) three months later. Others posted a long wait, but got their orders eventually.

So my advice is to stop buying off ebay or gb at crazy high prices and just be ready to wait for slow turnaround from the source.

I got mine today as well. I placed the order 10/4. They must have just sent out a batch.

Not sure why you are so excited about getting it months later, I was pretty unhappy waiting six weeks for the little piece of tin.

If you want or need one ASAP, nothing wrong with paying extra on Ebay. I feel waiting 3 months is pretty absurd for something that should take a few days to ship. Our fellow board member who owns BK Grips (similar product) ships them the day he gets your payment.

I have wondered about Tyler Ts. In the day, they were a way to customize a minimal factory grip, but with today's selection of grips, the Tyler T's seem (to me, with all due respect) to be an irrational devotion to original grips. There have to be more attractive and functional solutions. What is it about Tyler Ts that is special in functional terms.

This is old news but maybe some of the newbies will benefit. I recently ordered from BK Grips. When I ordered for my K frame only gold and ivory were available. Not being in the pimp trade I ordered ivory. The grip has some minor imperfections which you are told about on the site. Fit is not exactly perfect if you are the anal retentive type. Still, it works. I plan on buying again for my K38 with 8 3/8" barrel.

Tyler Ts are far from obsolete. I, too was unconvinced at first sight -- and even at first handling.

But having experimented with various stocks, factory magnas with a Tyler remain -- to my hand -- the best compromise between smallest profile and quality hold under draw and fire.

Over the summer I picked up three J frame revolvers for 1950's & 1960's and wanted to enhance the original grips. I do agree however that aftermarkets grips are available that would make most revolvers better shooters than with the factory grips.

My excitement was receiving them at all. For a while people were posting not receiving anything. And yes, I did buy off ebay. Lucked out and got new old stock for $20 + shipping. Also bought a vintage S&W grip adaptor made of plastic but much prefer the aluminum metal grips by Tyler.

I agree that at first glance, it might appear that Tylers represent an irrational devotion to original grips. During the eighties and nineties, that was probably a good explanation of my attraction to them. But after quite a bit of experience at concealed carry, it became quite clear that for many applications, they were simply the best compromise available, even if one gave no regard to tradition. Hapworth said it well:

at_liberty, "what is it about Tyler Ts that are special"? Two words, they work.
If I understand the story right, when the "old man" passed the family wanted to sell off the business. One relative,[I understand an LEO]wanted to keep the business running. As I understand, it he tried to keep the business going, work his shifts[with several leaves of absence] and fight the rest of the family for control. If all that is true ,he deserves a little slack so he can get on his feet and re-establish the business. If I'm wrong ,I'll stand corrected. If I'm right,we'll all benefit in the long run. I hope it all comes out well if we are patient. Nick

Everybody has different hand geometry, but a T Grip combined with smooth wooden stocks that match the shape of the frame are my number one choice for K and J frame round butt snubbies.
It fits my hand perfectly and doesn't snag on clothing. Another feature I like is that since the T grip is so narrow, it leaves a surface along the front of the stocks that makes it easier to draw from a holster than grips where the finger grooves blend into the sides in one smooth curve.

Many prefer the older, original grip adapters with the engraved lettering vs. the laser lettering on the sides and are willing to pay a premium for them. I base this solely on the prices the older adapters bring and the comments I have read.

Got mine today!

Believe it or not, this one is better than the older ones that I've owned. Better fit. All said and done it was less than 2 months and I think it was worth it.

AMEN, BROTHER!!! WELL STATED!!!

There might be nothing "special" about them, but I like them. I freely admit that a lot of that "like" is based on the retro look. So what? That's as good a reason for liking something as I can think of. Is something else "better?" Maybe, but the T's are good enough for me.

Besides...they're fairly inexpensive.

I've got a couple more guns that need them, so a few days ago I took a chance and ordered a couple of BK grips, just to see what they're like. If they don't work out, I'll order a couple more T's.
