I have T-grips on 4 of my J-frames and my Model 22. Very happy and never waited more than a few weeks for them. They are a family operation that's been around a looong time. I've used them since the 70's. With More CCW permits than ever, and S&W selling J-Frames as fast as they make them, I am not surprised they are behind. I like to support small business America and think some get spoiled by the "I want it NOW!" fast service McDonald's culture in America. Slow down and smell the roses folks.

I did not buy all mine in the 70's. Two sets I purchased this year. It would be silly to compare 1970's shipping to now. I actually always read an entire thread before posting. I had no intention to offend, but to defend. Tyler is small but I think "rinky dink" is a low blow. Others have copied and fallen by the wayside. Tyler does not do much marketing, so they didn't invite the rush, and it is not economically resonable to expand production capability for a limited product whose demand ebbs and flows. As for sensative...

I agree totally with smithmarine. They are a fine little company and are doing a good job. Just because you can't have FedExed overnite for your immediate gratification, doesn't mean they are "rinky-dink".

A sure way for a small company to go bust is to overcapitalize on equipment and employees to meet a limited demand.

If you don't like the wait get a dremel tool and a piece of aluminum and make one yourself. But don't insult a fine little family-owned company because they don't operate on your schedule.

I'm sort of in the middle here. While I am sort of upset at not getting my grips yet (they cashed my check on June 5th!), I'm obviously willing to give them a little leeway since dude had a heart attack. I'm glad the family stepped up and cleared out all the backorders even after Bryan had his heart attack, because that couldn't have been easy.

However, I'm a little miffed that I had to hear about the increase in backorder time (and the heart attack) from going to their webpage, which was updated like 2 weeks after the fact. I'm willing to allow for people who aren't comfortable with computers, but a mass e-mail to customers would have at least kept everyone posted and made everyone feel better.

E: We live in an age where you can have a workable web store set up by paying a highschooler $10/hr to set up a pre-made open-source web store application. There's no excuse.

I bought seize one at the gun show in Mesquite from a dealer who sells grips...she said she had two left.. 25 bucks...they were "nickle" even though my model 36 is blue but what the heck...better than waiting a million years

I understand the family issues.

But it is rinky-dink to operate like this.

My check was cashed May 12. That means we're closing in on five MONTHS when it said eight WEEKS when I sent them my money. Not being able to get through to the company is just icing on the cake.

I filed a complaint with the BBB this morning. More than doubling the delivery time is unacceptable.

Welp I just got my grip adapter in the mail. Check cashed June 5th, product received October 7th.

I guess I'm ticked that I had to wait so long, but at this point I'm happy enough to have the adapter that I don't feel like complaining

Just out of curiosity why do so many people like the tyler t's? To me it would seem like they were originally made to supplement the small service stocks on j frames and give a fuller grip, but with the many grip possibilities today I'm curious if people are buying them based on liking the looks or as a functional part of their gun. Just curious

Reasonable question. AFAIK, there are two or three answers.

1. They allow the nostalgic to retain genuine factory grips of the period, and yet make the gun usable.

2. They themselves are representative of a certain period.

3. In some cases, particularly J SB for me, the end result is actually the best grip shape available, providing the smallest (most concealable) usable grip.

One would think that by this time, there would be suitable wooden grips available without having to go to a grip adapter, and perhaps some people feel that that is already true. Others don't, or rate reason 1 or 2 above as fairly important. Note that many nice stag and other grips are still being made in the service or Magna shape. These usually require a grip adapter. For my hand, Pachs and Hogues are just about the only good currently-made grips (not counting Herrett's and other made-to-fit-the-individual-hand customs), but rubber sometimes has a disadvantage or two, and wooden Hogues cost a bit more than a Tyler.

I think that Tylers will be with us at least until all the folks who like 30's - 80's revolvers die off, and that could be a long time.

just how much are wooden hogues? I mean that may be an option for the j frame. I just need something that would take up the space like a tyler. I don't want to worry about sweating with rubber. I have to start thinking of options because I can't wait forever for tylers that will never come. I should have thought of this before.

Heck,I live in OKC...If I knew the address I'd go there myself...I can't find an address for them,just a PO.box #...I just bought one on ebay for 30 bucks...I'd like to get 2 more ,but I'm just not that willing to send 60+ bucks to them to wait 4 mos. to infinity to get them or ,by the way things seem to be going possibly not get them at all...

I'm not sure that I would recommend Hogues for a J. Of course, what fits me and what fits you may not be the same. For me, factory with Tyler is almost the only way to go on a J, although the large Pachmayr Presentations are OK on a gun where rubber and size aren't problems, like maybe a holstered Kit Gun. Compacs (not Compac Pros) are OK, too, but by the time you have a large rubber grip, it might as well be a Presentation.

Sorry that this is not much help. In your position, I would just keep looking for a Tyler, or, on the chance that your hand might fit something different from mine, look around all the gun shops where you can actually try something on your gun.

thanks and that gives me a place to start. if I had not been in such a hurry to leave the range today I would have looked at some different grips. my concern with the wooden hogues is the width. I need something narrow but longer like what you get from the tylers. thing is the smith target grips work well for me on all their guns but never seen them on a j frame. also I wouldn't want a grip that fat for carry or
self-defense. I was shooting my 13-3 today with magnas. I never could shoot too good with magnas though. for the targets I can put the shots in the center hole but with magnas they start to move 1-2 rings out because you just can't get a good feel. tired of those guns sitting around like that just because I don't have decent grips. I will check out your ideas. next time will take the time to feel some other grip options.

No compaints here. I'll gladly wait for exactly what I want.
