Tyler T-Grips - End of Story

There is no "end of story" when it comes to the subject matter. I have one of these grip adapters that I bought in the '70s or '80s from one of the large mail order places that sold gun stuff, reloading equipment, etc. They were only a few dollars as I recall. I don't know whether you could order these adapters directly from the Tyler company at that time or not, but selling his products through dealers kept the owner from the time consuming task of dealing with and shipping to individual customers.

^^^what he said. I must have bought 10 or 15 of them from the pro shop at my range. They came in a little white box wrapped in a piece of paper towel! $3.00. Sizes for all frame sizes and shapes of DA revolvers were available. No muss, no fuss. Remember if you have installed them on a gun and the gun is to be in for work, to remove them beforehand. T-grips have legs and will walk away. Same for UM boot grips.

I agree, I couldn't find a real use for them either but they have eye appeal to the buyers.

I'm just the opposite. I think they are hideous, unsightly additions to good revolvers. I always loathed seeing them. I used to occasionally get them on revolver trades and throw them away.

Then I tried one on my old favorite Model 10. It aided purchase on the factory stocks and I much preferred the shooting results over aftermarket stocks or especially equally hideous rubber grips.

So, now I'm sold even though I still think they are hideous looking.

Never did anything for me, looks or feel. I got one recently that looked new/unused in the box with one of my N-frames and I did what I always do with them, call a friend up, tell him I have another one I don't want/need, and get enough for it to buy me lunch. Last time it was $10. He offered it, and I took it. It was worth the drive to the halfway point for both of us. Anything that fits an S&W K, L, or N and I don't want it, he will take it. If I didn't want to keep them for future resale, I have a half dozen sets of magna grips sitting around doing nothing.

A Tyler-T grip for 10 bucks? Can I be your friend, too? I'll even pay for your lunch.

I'd like to add a few comments on the Tylers. First, the need for them. Standard service and magna grips may be too slender to grasp for many hands. The T-grips give more surface to grab on to. Also, most factory boxes for guns shipped with service or magna grips will not accept the same gun fitted with target grips, as they add depth to the grip area. A case in point is a mint-condition model 67 that I own; I'd like to apply some prime factory target stocks to it, but it will not then fit in the factory box. With the t-grips it will.

Then there is the authenticity angle. To have a classic period gun fitted with another later type goes against the grain for many traditionalists, such as I am. I like to have everything looking and feeling original.

This 67 will fit, of course, in its factory box:

With my preferred target stocks, it will NOT fit in the box. So it's currently fitted with polished aluminum T-grips.

I thought about ordering a black T-grip and rolling the dice but decided to give the BK Grip adapter a try instead. I lightly sanded it with 3000 grit to remove a few rough spots and finished it with some mother's aluminium polish...looks painted now but even better since the color won't scratch. Should look great with the new set of American Holly panel grips that I just got.

I sent a check for 2 sets of tyler's and received them 2 weeks ago, 4 1/2 weeks from the date they cashed the check. Not sure why I got them so quick but I'm not complaining
The guy cashed my check a month ago. Hope springs eternal -- I'll start watching the mail again.

Possibly because the person who ordered them got tired of waiting and asked for a refund; you were at the right place at the right time. A birthday gift from a buddy, my brushed bronze adapter took 13 months after they cashed his check.

I got my BK grip adapters 3-4 days after ordering them. I chose the BK due to the time I'd have to wait for the others.

I was talking to a good friend to get some Magna grips for my other friends 29-2 and he said he's toss in a Tyler T for me so I could see the difference between the two.

Friends are awesome. :D

Ts are made in batches...you got lucky in that whatever you ordered, he had more than it had orders for...

If on the other hand your order comes in just after the run and all are sold out you will be waiting months to get it...

...I have to disagree...he should simply put them on GunBroker or ebay as he completes them.... No one has money tied up, no whining, no waiting... He would also make more money...

After my first 2 direct orders from Tyler-T... the above is just how I decided to start ordering them... From either eBay or Guns/America. Never a problem anymore. "Plastic" doesn't belong on a Revolver. Burger-King can keep the BK's!

I received a BK adapter less than a week after ordering it. It fits my old 5" M10 pretty well, and results in the grip on the gun that I was used to when using the old Tyler T-grips. I'm happy with it. Now, if that guy in OK ever fills my order, I guess I'll just consider it a bonus.
