Types of Smith & Wesson Revolver Grips

Do all Cokes have a diamond?

To the OP; good thread. Thanks!

Hello MWark
To answer your question, Yes all Coke profile Target stocks do have diamond's, with the Exception being "Smooth Target stocks" Only. They Phased out the Coke profile in the mid to late 1960s time span and all Diamond's dissapeared on all other S&W stock's in or around the 1968 time span...:)

I picked up my new 625-2 today. It came with a new set smooth combat. Nice but a bit short for my grip.

So , I dig into the grip box and pulled out a set of smooth Banana's. They fit well,, there is a 1/8 gap at the heal.

I'm not sure they are N or J/K frame. In looking around I saw checkered bananas but no smooth nor N frame?? These bananas are serialized 736..

JJ BPK,

Those are round butt K frame grips. They will also fit a RB L frame revolver as well.

OK,, I thought I had purchased them for a M-66 way back.. I have not had a K frame in over 25 yrs, so these have sat..

But, Why do they fit the 625??

Thanks..

The round butt N frame was 'sort of' sized to be much like the round butt K frame, because that grip size has proven over time to be "so right" with shooters, but they aren't exactly the same. Notice how much of the frame near the top of your gun's grips are exposed.

You can put a set of standard K frame square butt target stocks on a square butt N frame and they will 'sort of' fit the same way, which is to say, not quite right.

I did notice the slight mis-alignment at the back-strap.

I like the feel of the grip. It is a little longer (3/16??) and front
to back, thinner..

I'll start looking for another set...thanks..

Back in the box they go...

PS: Who makes a bearhug style??

S&W Grips

How long were the non-relief (w/o the football) target grips for the K-model made? I have a pair on my K-22 5-screw c1955 that I think is too late for these.

Early stocks

The square butt, non-medallion early stocks. These numbered to gun made about 1919,serial number 3646xx.

I agree that the non-relieved were {made} until 1955-56 but the inventory was {used up} til end of late 50's. I have a four screw K22 from 1959 that left the factory with non-relived , checkered Targets.
The Factory continued to sell them as an accessory as late as 1960. A member on another Forum has a NOS set in a S&W box post-marked 1960

Recently some rosewood K-Frame magnas went for really big bucks on ebay ($460+) and I was wondering if you folks had any idea why other than them being in new condition and offered by a fellow we all recognize by his ape-like presence around here?
I am curious mostly because I have these N- frame rosewood magnas and might consider putting them up on ebay is it would finance 2/3 ds of another nice revolver.
Any information about era, S&W manufacture, history etc??
They did not come to me on a gun, they have flush mounted nickel hardware, and show dandy grain in my opinion.

Steve those are some mighty fine magnas and as most come in walnut these are hard to find. I do think that auction was mostly a pi$$ing match and not the real worth. I'd put them at half that in the real world. Then again you might get lucky.:) BTW, sure do admire your multiple talents.

Thanks DWF. I'm working on a set of English walnut N-frame magnas, will post a pick when a bit further along. Maybe smooth, maybe checker??

I sure do like those rosewood grips. I saw them at the local GS on Friday and it took me until Sunday to find something he wanted to trade for.

Now this is a GREAT help!
I really am appreciative of it. Thanx.
Now help me out with what grips are on my 1910 M&P.
Bill

Those are likely aftermarket plastic grips made by Franzite.
