It's been some time now since I've started a protection thread. This evening's delicious meal of t-bones with squash and a garden salad just cried out to be protected.

The carbine is one I assembled "as new" about five years ago. It is all USGI with the exception of the receiver which is Springfield Armory.

They had plans to produce carbines with their new receivers and all GI parts, however the economics was just not there. Parts are too expensive now and they dropped the project.

I picked up the receiver from their shop on Commercial Row at Camp Perry, and the balance of the parts were secured "new" from Fulton Armory. Riverbank Armory in California fitted my barrel to the receiver.

Early summer evenings here in Indian Territory just don't get any better than this. The only thing missing was a good brewski, however I'm on a diet and must pass.

By the way, I've lost twenty pounds in the last four weeks eating just like this!

Interesting you should post this. Just today I've been preping a batch of .30 Carbine brass.
I've noticed that you and I think alot alike.
I'm just not sure which one of us should be worried about that.

So, Charlie, how come you're the only one with steak on your plate?

Because he has the gun. If his wife had the gun, she'd have the steak and all he'd have is rabbit-food.

I picked up a couple of the Springfield receivers for the princely sum of $40 each a few years back. The quality is excellent and they do make good carbines.

Springfield couldn't get the parts because of the Clinton administration's policy on importing USGI parts. Or that's what I was told at the time.

Esterroid, I paid $65.00 direct from Springfield. Others were buying more than one...wish I had done the same! The last I heard, people were getting $250.00 + for the receivers now.!

Charlie, here's a picture of my "Springfield, Inc." carbine that I assembled from scratch a few years back. Seem to remember I paid about $70 for the receiver, and was able to get a old stock still-in-the-wrap Winchester barrel for a hundred bucks, and the rest of the parts I hand picked at various gunshows over a two year period. The stock is a new production I finished myself.

It would cost a small fortune to build one these days.

Faulkner, that looks great. I think your price is about right on the receiver. I paid $65.00 direct from Springfield. I'm only sorry I didn't pick up more at the time. Just a year or so later they were selling for $250.00 to $300.00!

I need to get case, muzzle cover and ammo pouch to "trick" mine out. I've got the bayonet, but not the leather handled one. Every part of mine is "new".

I really enjoyed doing the project, but today, it's just cheaper to buy in "existing" one.
