Uber Driver

Not for me - either as a driver or a passenger. As Erich posted, their TOS prohibits carrying a firearm. I'm not getting into a stranger's car OR letting one into my car without some self protection.

Being an Uber driver is advertising your car as a mobile "GUN FREE ZONE" - and we all know the only person who is truly safe in one of those is the nutjob with a gun who is intent on killing as many people as possible with no viable opposition.

Being an Uber passenger is like hanging a sign around your neck that says "I'M UNARMED - Mug ME!".

No thanks.

Get your ccl, what they don't know will not hurt them in your case. If I took them and had a ccl, I sure as hell ain't admitting to being armed. In Texas, its not breaking the law sense you have the permit, unless that's changed? Public libraries have no gun signs out but, their signs aren't written exactly like the law, so that person woiuldnt get in trouble for carrying. I'veseen that happen first hand here.

? for germaphobes

Which would you rather eat off the seat from? Care to do the black light test on a public city cab vs an Uber? Which has seen more stanky unwashed backsides? I think I'll go take a long shower and boil my clothes now.

All cars for hire or ride sharing with compensation should be subject to the same rules/regulations.
NYC taxi drivers were fingerprinted, photographed, background checks, tested for knowledge of the city etc etc.
Wonder how the "insurance" they provide really covers all possible problems.
Workers Comp vs Uber Comp???
I've heard that many private health insurance companies require your "workplace" to provide workers comp or charge a bit more to cover you when gainfully employed even part time.

The Gun thing is a no brainer..... I guess Uber carries "the world is at war with religious, fake or real, terrorists" insurance as well. ;)

A Pro Driver is the captain of the ship!!!

San Antonio, TX is like some other cities which have banned these "ride sharing" businesses. Not exactly banned, but will not exempt them from taxi cab regulations.

They think everyone should follow the same rules they force on the regulated cab companies (insurance, FBI fingerprint check, fees and taxes) .

I guess I'm the opposite.

I don't think the govt should be able to require insurance, fingerprinting, licensing, etc. to operate a business, be it a 'regular' cab or Uber.

So someone is making fake accounts, changing their appearances, all for what? There is no cash changing hands.

Ever order pizza? You didn't know who's making the delivery. Could be a felon. Could be a group if felons

The reason cab drivers have to have their photos displayed was because they were running scams. They'd have a reletive come to the US, no driving record, no DL, may not be legal to work but give him the keys and let him make a few bucks on the midnight shift.

Cab companies have different rules in different states. I can't speak for Spokane but in Philly you're not going to get a Gypsy cab unless you call one. They usually advertise in the local papers as "stay at home person" who can help you do grocery shopping or something similar. Flagging down a cab will only get you a legit cab. All cabs have medalions on their hood, big ugly metal round medalions. ..clearly visible with all the info. Someone who doesn't have that can't opperate in the city. Each medalion costs just under $200k. So if there are two cabs in the company they have $400,000 just in medalions. Parking Authority and cops check them. Most cab drivers here are Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Russian, or African. They all work for the same 4 or 5 cab companies. They all rent or lease the medalions from the company and they all know each other. If a Gypsy cab shows up just to be flagged down,it will most likely result in a confrontation.

Uber doesn't ask you anything about guns. There is no option to check off or press 1 for YES or 2 for NO.

Despite what it sounds like, I'm not trying to make a case in favor of Uber, I just don't see how it's different from a cab.

Obviously you've never owned or worked for a small business.

"Posers" that don't take the time to do business legitimately hurt business owners that do.
