Ugh....Just got back from Emergency Room minus 3/4" of index finger....

Well I slept all last night and woke up almost pain-free this morning. Did a few things I probably shouldn't have done instead of just resting. Then I decided to get dressed and that's where my problems started. I tried putting deodorant on and rammed my newly shortened finger into the corner of the wall. I can't describe the agony I felt, it hurt beyond comprehension. After I stopped jumping around and screamin' like a little girl, I was able to wipe the tears of pain from my eyes. Less than 5 minutes later I picked up my sneakers off the shoe mat and spun around to sit on the steps to put them on, and yes, you guessed it, I smashed the finger once again on the corner of the wall. Repeat what happened above, but even worse this time, as I begged someone to kill me it because it hurt so bad. I can't believe the police did not show up as I screamed bloody murder. I gotta be more careful.....Shoo

Get you one of them there aluminum finger splints with the foam inside. They work great!! Be careful out there Shoo!

I'm not going to read anymore of your posts if you keep making me cringe!!! ;)

rags

Sorry rags, even the doctor putting the needle into my testicles twice during my vasectomy couldn't compare with the pain in my finger today. Tomorrow I meet with the surgeon to see if I need anything additionally done to the finger. I can't wait to get all the bandages off of my arm and hand at that time. With any luck they will have some kind of splint device to soften blows to the end of my finger, and hopefully I won't need any type of cast. Thanks, Shoo

Thanks again guys and girls ! It was a rough night. Went to bed about 10:30, fell asleep around midnite, up this morning at 4. The Percoset(?) is barely taking the edge off of my pain. I think I got up to pee at least 8-10 times and twice for pain meds. At times it feels like someone is peeling back my no longer there fingernail, and then sticking a hot poker into my wound. I hate bein' a wussy, but this does hurt. Later I have to watch the Buffalo Bills get their butts whooped and that's just gonna make my day suck even more. Oh well. Anyone want to come over my house and finish up the Shoo Hammer orders I need to ship ??? Shoo

Depends on what dosage they gave you think it starts at 2 mg all the way up to 10mg, mixed with tylenol (acetaminophen) If it doesn't work, check with your Doctor. Can't imagine how much that must hurt and throb.

Try to take it easy.;)

Oh WOW Shoo; Don't even want to think about your problems. Hurts to just think about. I watched a kid in machine shop during my high school years do that thing with a milling machine. He lost both index & middle fingers to the second joint on his left hand. He was left handed also. Saw him later in a Navy uniform so I guess the Army didn't want him with his trigger finger gone.

Well that stinks. It happens so quick too. I have a small machine shop and repair machine tools (punch presses) for a living so I know all to well the dangers.

I will give you my standard wise guy remark.

Dont worry it will grow back, (yeah sure), oh you need to start eating starfish :)

Anyhow

Let it heal up good and dont let it get dirty.

And for what ever reason, chips always seem to work through bandages. Coolant isnt your friend anymore...

Speedy Recovery!!

About ten years go I took off the top of my right thumb. I have about half a nail now, kind of a diagonal cut. Did it on a table saw and yeah, it got the better of me as well.:)

Funny thing is that it was never really a painful experience as I remember. I remember sitting in the emergency room with a towel wrapped around my thumb soaked red with blood and dripping blood all over their floor. But it was just never painful, more of a dull throbbing.

Anyways, I ended up going to a specialist in Seattle and they basically just changed out the bandages for a month or so and I recovered just fine. I can use it and all, it's just shorter now.

Sorry about the mishap...it happens and don't beat yourself up over it. You will be fine.

I tried to cut my left thumb off once. Luckily I didn't succeed! I hope you are able to get through this with as little pain as possible Shoo.

I'll be holding off my order until you have a sale on the Blood Red Shoo Hammers!

Did this with my thumb too. I hit it getting in my car one morning, and thought I was going to pass out. I will admit I sat in the car and cried. Oh man, that pain was intense.

Be careful!

Man, Shoo, that's one messed-up finger you have there. It looks like... well, it doesn't look good  Sorry my friend, I hope you have lots of ice, and pain pills.... and think of something pleasant - it may not help, but it'll take you mind of your finger for a bit.

Pete

i lost 1/2" off my right ring finger years ago. (something to do with a corn chopper, but i won't go into how stupid i was). so i know how it feels. my boss at my full time job was such a jerk, he had me do an 8-wheel brake job on a dot plow truck 5 days after i cut my finger. banging off brake drums with the 16 pound sledge...not much fun.

The saga continues...... one week from today they will open up my finger again to remove a painful bone spur that has developed. How am I suppose to make Shoo Hammers with one hand ??? Better get this run of 70 Hammers done as soon as possible...... darn thing...... Shoo
