Wow Shoo. We computer jockeys don't have any such occupational hazards. Instead, we use our avocations to damage our digits.
About 15 years ago I was working in an unlighted garage tightening the water pump pulley bolts on my 1986 Fiero SE 2.8L. Imagine the following circuit: the negative battery post... the engine block ground strap... a water pump pulley bolt... the ratchet... a small pewter ring on my right ring finger... and the positive battery side post. Yep, I made contact with a fully charged car battery with that ring, which completed the circuit.
There was a loud pop, followed by a shower of sparks, and then the sound of me screeching loudly to the horror and dismay of a mate working with me. After a few seconds the ring cooled off enough to actually pull it off. The end result? I was missing a ring of flesh all the way around the finger about 2 mm wide and about 0.5mm deep. On the ring were two holes surrounded by scorch marks: one where the charge entered the ring, and one where the charged exited the ring into the ratchet handle. The next six weeks were painful of a kind I never care to repeat. As I had no health insurance, I sought no care for the wound and thankfully it didn't get infected or I might have lost much more than some flesh. One day I caught the wound on a CD tray while working on a PC. I cringed when you described stoving your stump on the wall; I've been there.
This was nothing compared to what has happened to you, but please know that even lesser experiences allow some of us to feel your pain with you.
