I have just acquired a Sig P238, .380acp. Like the Colt Mustang, it is built as a scaled-downed 1911 and it very comfortable as such. It fits in the right rear pocket very well and carries in a lightweight IWB so that you might forget you have it. It came from the factory with Night Sights, a little ambitious for a mouse-gun - but, make no mistake, this is a serious piece of equipment. For anyone who prefers the smaller caliber and wants reliable equipment, this little gun, firing flat tips, gets amazing penetration and acceptable wound channel, at short range. It's very manageable and, although it barks like most small .380's, it's not uncomfortable.

This is a stock pic of the model I have:

Before you laugh, consider the numbers of bodies in Europe, NYC and Chicago all laid to rest as a result of the .380. Frank Nitti's favorite gun was the 1903 .380 and he ordered six of them as gifts to his cohorts.

One of the problems encountered with any of the small .380acp's is the use of +P ammo. In every case I am familiar with, even guns rated +P, require a stiffer spring. A call to customer service for your model will almost instantly get an answer as to whether a new spring should be used, if you are going to regularly shoot the +P's.

At any rate, now that I'm 61, I find the convenience of the mouse-gun to be comforting and have come full circle as to its ability. My philosophy of self-defense has changed, too. When I was young, I was out to save the world. Now, defense of the free world is not even a thought. Self defense at "assailant range" or arm's length is what I practice defending against. A quick, empty .380 magazine suffices just fine and, while I have not given up the Commander, I also do not feel defenseless carrying the .380, either.

Hope it works great for you; early ones had problems I don't remember from the Colt Mustangs. That disappointed me and kept me from buying one back then, which is a shame, as they are really lovely machines. I've heard they're working now but I don't need one anymore. :(

There is no SAAMI spec for .380+P, so I take all of that labeling with a giant grain of salt. I agree on the potential usefulness of the .380, though, and carry an LCP sometimes.

Great gun; congrats! :)
