Understanding models

If I understand correctly, a Transitanal model is a post WWII
gun with the 'long action' with the old style graceful hammer
plus various small changes.
Made up until the change to the 'short action' with the 'modern'
style hammer & the attendant changes started then.

Is that correct?

What are the transitanal models names made in .44 Special?

Are there a serial # range to help identify them?

Also in the transitanal 38/44 HD, is there a serial # range to
help identify them?

I am interested in finding a transitanal 38/44 HD with 5" barrel and
or a transitanal 44 Special with 5" barrel.

So, looking to learn about them.

Post-war 1926 Model .44 Military (fixed sight) and 1926 Model .44 Target revolvers were made beginning in late 1946 and continued until early 1949. S&W manufactured approximately 1400 of these guns (total) and they are in the serial number range (aproximately), S62500 to S73000. They are characterized by the long action, old style hammer, large ejector rod knob, Magna stocks with the smaller (post-war) monogram, and the new hammer block safety. The target model is very rare (and expensive) with fifty or less estimated to have been produced.

The .38/44 Heavy Duty is in approximately the same serial number range and has the same features as the 1926 .44 Military.

I've never had a Target in that range in .44 but I' looking.........and Looking.......and

dewey...I had one for a few years. S71000 range shipped in November 1947.
