Had an opportunity to trade for an unfired 1975 made Model 37 Air Weight. Just had to share. I'm usually more of a Detective Special fan but I couldn't pass this up. Traded a H&R Mod 999. The owner wanted to keep the curved grips for his other J-Frame S&W but had the original grips, box and papers for this one. Ok. Still... happy, happy, happy.

Nice piece,,,enjoy!
The Md#37 was the first handgun I ever purchased as a CCW and I still have it yet today.

Congrats on getting a great looking Model 37! I don't understand your statement about the grips. Are the banana grips in the picture original to the gun or did he keep the originals?

69Hemi: from my understanding, the banana grips were purchased after the gun so he had the original, standard and the banana grips. The owner wanted to keep the banana grips for another one of his J-frame Smith's so I got the gun with the standard grips. I have a set of banana style grips on order from Altamont for it.
I shot it yesterday. It's an impressive little gun. The grips are a little small but at 25'-50' she held 1"-2" groups using Aguila 158gr semi-jacketed hollow points.

OK, if you got the original magna grips with the gun you did well. Those banana grips look a little funny but are a lot more comfortable to shoot.
I have a couple of pairs of the banana grips on my J-frame guns also and like them.

Wife has two Detective Specials. I put Badger grips on those to make them more comfortable for her to shoot. The OEM grips are similar to the OEM Smith grips and leave too much room behind the trigger guard for fingers/knuckles to get beat up with recoil. I have Altamont's on my 629, a 64 and will for this 37, again, to fill the space behind the guard. The Altamont's for the 629 are wider than OEM's and make for a nicer fit. The original Mod 29 grips on my 4" 29 are great but newer Smith grips are considerably thinner. Similar situation on my Anaconda, I put Ahrends grips on that.
