Unhappy with new S&W m&p 9mm

So My wife bought me a S&W M&P 9mm . I took it out of the box and was checking it out and noticed it rattles horribly.
The slide fits so sloppy on the frame it's disappointing to say the least.
I called Cs and they basically said ya so what.
I have been wanting another one for awhile and my wife bless her heart bought it she didn't handle it just asked for one and bought it.
I have other 9mm and none i mean none have such a loose sloppy feel.

That really doesn't sound right. Just off the top of my head I'd say it sounds like the recoil spring might not be installed correct . As far as S&W's customer service, they have a great reputation.

I just got my shield 40 yesterday and I actually wish mine had a little rattle to it, it is the hardest gun I've ever tried to rack the slide on. But it is new with no rounds through it yet.

Recoil spring is installed correctly. I have another m&p 9mm that has had well over 10,000 rounds through it and it doesn't rattle at all. I also have glocks, sig, springfield, and a walther that don't rattle. It's not a little rattle its pretty sloppy.

Send it back to S&W. If it still rattles after, then you can complain.

If you haven't shot it yet maybe you can take it back to the shop your wife bought it from and swap it out? I second the opinion that you are a lucky man to have such an awesome woman as a life partner. No way in Hell mine would ever buy me a gun. That's why I like all black pistols, they all look the same to her! Now my wife MIGHT gift me the cash to purchase a gun, but she would never buy one herself as a gift to me. BTW: The gift/cash thing hasn't happened for me yet.

My 9c rattles a bit when I shake it, shoots fine. If you think about the design parameters they're supposed to have a loose fit. If they were tight like a 1911 they wouldn't survive in a rough environment. In the torture tests they dunk the pistol in mud and then shoot it. If it was a tight fit, you might get 1 shot off before the slide jammed.

I don't see why some people are giving the OP a hard time about this. It would be a quality concern that I would definitely want to be rectified, even if it shot accurately. Call smith and express your concern that this seems abnormal to you and you want them to look at it. They should cover shipping both ways. Since we can't physically observe the issue, a video showing the rattling would help determine whether or not its a defect.

Either take it back to the place your wife bought it from and see if they can figure out what the deal is or send it back to S&W and have them look at it. It shouldn't rattle.

Seems like we get an awful lot of complaints from low count posters about quality control and few from old hands.

I've got a WWII 1911 that rattles like rocks in a can and I'd still bet my life on it. The OP needs to shoot his M&P first. They need some slack to shoot.
