Hello out there! Yesterday's gun show find. I guess it's I frame .22 Kit gun. Serial # on bottom of grip, back of cylinder & underside of barrel is 19,8XX. Assembly? # on yolk & inside of frame, 73,6XX. Four screw side plate, coil spring, flat latch 4" barrel, blue finish. Perhaps I'm reading impaired but I'm not positive (reading Jinks book) of what I have is called & would like to know when made. THANKS!

Welcome to the Forum.

You have a Model of 1953 .22/32 Kit Gun, also known as a pre Model 34. It probably shipped in 1953-55. S&W tracked shipping dates, not production dates and S&Ws were not shipped in order. More like last in the vault, first out the door. Only a letter from the S&W historian, Roy Jinks, can tell you the exact date.

It is built on a Improved I frame, which has the coil mainspring. The I frames had the older flat mainspring.
