This came out of Russia. It appears to be an oiler kit with a storage compartment. It is marked with the same mark found on third models manufactured at Springfield and Ludwig Loewe.

Has anybody seen anything like it?

New one on me, Joe. What are the over all dimensions? Could be container of some sort for an oiler & maybe a bore brush,or even to hold a few cartridges ( and is missing it's outside cloth cover/pouch) ??? Is it all brass? It's obviously missing the "cap" for the threaded opening Does the opening go to a sealed container portion of the item ? Did your source in Russia have any idea of what it does ? I would guess it's of foreign manufacture. If it was a S&W factory product, we would have seen specimens before now. Ed. (PS: Are the threads metric or SAE ? )

I will have it in my hands in about 10 days and then will know thread sizes etc. It is about 3 inches long (see attached picture)

The end compartment was likely for a threaded oiler.

A similar oiler for a Berdan rifle.
