UPDATE!!! Does anybody shoot at 10:15 PM?

Most people don't have the money to shoot all night long very often so I'd forget about it. It probably won't happen again for a very long time.

Now on the other hand if it was an obnoxious neighbor like a friend of mine had next door I'd consider something a little different. My old buddy Jasper was mowing his lawn one Saturday morning at 10:00 AM when his crazy neighbor came out of his house with his hair on fire demanding that Jasper turn that damn thing off because he was trying to sleep. He told Jasper why don't you wait until 1 or 2 O'clock to do that. Jasper never said a thing and put his riding mower up. At 2:00 AM on Sunday morning Jasper fired up his mower, turned on the head lights and finished mowing his lawn. You just don't want to piss off a neighbor that might be crazier than you are.

....and impaled by the probulator...

OH No!!! Not the dreaded probulator!

On a more to the topic note, I would wait to see if it became a frequent activity before doing anything. I would guess that the neighbors that are closer to him will have already notified the local LEOs by that time. If you knew the guy even a little bit, I would suggest talking to him about the shooting at night, but not if I didn't know him at all. A phone call to the LEOs could be annonymous, and he would not know which of the neighbors called it in.

All the ranges I belong to have dawn to dusk rules except for Sundays when shooting starts at noon in deference to the local churches.

Gotta go with Wicahoney on this one. It's either legal or it ain't, and the two call for entirely different approaches, whose long-term consequences must be reckoned correctly. Easy for me to say, of course, since most noises don't bother me. Is it still bad with the windows closed? Ear plugs?

Update!

I'm out last night with my GF when she gets a phone call around midnight from one of her neighbors (we'll call him Joe. he's the one I mentioned in one of my posts that was young and had young kids. He and his wife are friends with my GF who sometimes watches their kids). It seems Friday night was just a warm up. Apparently "World War 3" (as it was described) had broken loose and the shooting neighbors land was the epicenter.

Unfortunately we weren't at my GFs place, so I can only tell you what she was told by Joe. I guess the gunfire started around 11 then really picked up. A few people were actually out shooting, not just one. Not only were they shooting but also playing loud music and.. well being generally loud. Joe called the shooter after a little bit but got no answer. He tried again and still no answer. He tried a few times but couldn't get the shooter. Aparently quite a few of the people in the area were calling each other back and forth for a while trying to figure out what was going on / trying to get in touch with the shooter...

That was all we knew last night.

I find out today that eventually the police were called, and around 1:30 AM, while the shooting party was still going on, two cars showed up at the shooters property. The shooting and noise promptly stopped.

The end. That's all I know! :mad::confused:

Now I definitely feel in a situation like this, the shooter should have called the neighbors just to let them know what was going on.

Let's see......whiskey and loud music and fire arms going off in the middle of the night..... You Pennslyvania boys are beginning ot act like us southern boys ;)
Seriously though...sounds like it was handled and you and the GF weren't there so he can't get mad at you. You might want to contact the local LEO and see if they will let you see the incident report or at least give them a "me too"

Nope. I'm usually clocked in waiting for a job assignment.

At 2:00 AM on Sunday morning Jasper fired up his mower, turned on the head lights and finished mowing his lawn.

That would be fine with me. I'm at work at that time anyway listening to someone running a JT-8D or RB211.

I'm usually just getting home at 10 in the morning.

Now my wife and kids might just take a different approach.

Looks like yore a good judge of situations... you kinda felt this guy was strange and sure enough the next night is crazy.

I really think he would have been better off calling the neighbors.

Hi! I've had an ongoing feud with my neighbor since 1996, we live in rural N/E Indiana 11 miles from town. The most recent incident was when the neighbor shot a round of birdshot over at our house with his O/U (his house is 500 ft away) when my husband and 2 of our young daughters were outside and birdshot rained down on them (they weren't hurt). We called the Sheriff and Deputy Fife talked to the neighbor. Neighbor told the Fife he was shooting at birds, not our house. Fife asked my husband if he saw neighbor do it, husband said no, but there are no other neighbors. Fife said there's nothing he can do. Husband told Fife about past incident where neighbor left JD tractor running from 10pm to 6am one night 35 feet from our bedroom (on his property), we called Sheriff and they said they couldn't do anything because neighbor was mad our dog was barking and there are no noise ordinances! Husband then asked Fife what would happen if we went out at 1am and started shooting our shotgun? Fife said he could ask us to quit, but if we said no they couldn't do anything because there is no noise ordinance!! It's the Twilight Zone here.

I'm very lucky in that I share 102 acres in rural PA with my brother. I don't have anybody who lives near enough to me to hear shots loud enough to care about them. In fact I myself have shot at night to have some tracer round fun... but I informed both people who live the closest to me I'd be doing so. I came to find out neither of them heard a single shot.
