My pal Duffer is in trouble. :(

He's got several swollen lymph nodes and the vet thinks it's cancer. He did a simple blood test to look for tick-born illnesses, etc. and it didn't show anything.
He is sending a blood sample for lab work for a better idea. We should know more tomorrow.

If it's cancer, it seems like it's moving fast because his neck swelled up in the matter of a couple days. The vet says based on his experience, it's most likely cancer.

He prescribed some antibiotics on the off chance that he's wrong, but if he's right, the outlook is very grim.
He said maybe summer, maybe fall. There's no way to guess.

Duffer was born here, in our house. This is all he's ever known. My daughters were 8 and 5 when he was born. They're 16 and 13 now. They have grown up with him.

This absolutely sucks.

My pal.

Look at the eyes. He knows he's not supposed to be in this chair. :D

...miracles happen...

...last July our Basset Hound Doc Holiday was a couple of hours from leaving us...

...two days in ICU...and an excellent vet diagnosis later (Addison's Disease)...he is taking his tablet a day and enjoying life again...

...hoping the best for Duffer and you...

I'm so sorry! I know the pain that you are in. He is a beautiful and very loved dog. We will say a prayer. Be strong.

We lost are German Shepherd LE K9 to cancer in January, she was 10 years old. We are just devastated.

What a beautiful dog...

I wish you and Duffer the best...that's one good looking dog...I completely know what you are going through...about a year ago we lost our beloved MastiDane to bone cancer...she only lived 6 years, but oh how she enriched our lives as I'm sure Duffer does yours...hopefully it won't be cancer and can be treated...I will be thinking about you and Duffer...Roger

...The last one I let hang on too long.

I'm sorry you're going through this.

I've made that same mistake a couple of times, and to this day I still regret it in both cases. I too am sorry you and your family are going through it. If your dog is "part of your family," it's one of the hardest things to endure.

I have learned over the years that dogs are fine tuned machines, once they get out of sync, they usually go down fast. This is the hard part of owning a dog, I hope it all works out, but if not, be sure to let him go when it's time. He would not want you to be sad. I'm sure that he had a great life already.

I hope you get good news. Spoil Duffer whether you get good news or bad. We lost 3 furry family members to cancer in one year. I wouldn't wish this on anyone or any pet.
