A consideration - if you modify the Shield, then need to send it back for eventual repairs, you will have to restore it to original factory spec before sending it in, if you want to be in compliance with the warranty. Some have been able to get repairs without problems, but they do have the right, per the warranty, to put it back to spec, and change you for that work.
So tread carefully.
Get a Tac rack. I do not have pictures of mine with one installed but I can tell you that it works great and does not add any significant width or bulk.

I am going to buy one this next weekend (free tax weekend!!) and I have been looking for some customization. I have tried to look for these but without actually looking at them sometimes its hard to see what it best. Here goes:
1) Apex Action Enhancement Kit for the trigger. This seems like a no brainer. Should I wait until I have broken in the weapon or do it right away?
2) Grips. I have large hands and like the feel of the extended mag but I also like having finger ridges. I see Talon grips talked about but I don't want it coming off in a few months or after cleaning. For concealed carry tape might be best since it does not increase the width very much. Options?
3) Sights. Many and varied options. I dont want them hanging over the sides and some pictures show what seems to be a large rear sight.
4) The holster will probably be something I have to experience hands on but I am looking for both IWB and OWB to suit different situations.
Anything else that I can do to make this MY weapon?
Of course you can provide us with the link where it states this...

It is buried in several mentions, so you have to read the whole thing. As well, when I have called for service, they always ask about modified / add-on parts, and warn to remove them.
I don't know any manufacturer that is any different on those considerations.
I can't think of any reason not to install sights, as far as factory work is concerned. Internals (trigger) might be iffy but why would they mess with your sights?
Like others, Apex from the start...
Because Kalifornia requires a safety on the Shield...I countered with
the Apex polished Competition Trigger Kit (smooth as silk - breaks like glass - under 3lbs).
Wow, with a 3lb trigger I would definitely want a safety on a belly gun. I hate heavy long creepy triggers but am not sure if I would want one on a CC weapon. My original Glock trigger creeped me out a bit while I was duty carrying it on the job to the point where I trained myself to shove my finger forward against the front of the guard when I pulled it out to fire. I never saw one do it but there have been plenty of rounds sent the wrong direction with Glocks . I sure wouldn't want yours or my 23 floating loose in a pocket locked and loaded. You want a full holster for that puppy.
As for the safety why not? Nobody even here in Neuyorkistancan make you use it.
So far I have ordered the Uplula loader and Talon Grips. I will have to see how the trigger and the sights are before I make any more changes. Thanks all.
I like the Truglo TFX sights, but the front sight is pretty long, shortening the sight radius and possibly getting in the way of your hand when racking the slide. I have them on a Glock 19 (4" barrel) and they're barely OK there. How have they worked out on that 3.1" barrel? You're going to get a lot of differing and conflicting information on those questions, and will not make the decision easy. If you haven't already, try a forum search for "9mm Shield Upgrade"...you'll find plenty of info and see what I mean. You have picked the 3 top upgrades I see considered for the Shield.
Sights--you're gonna get a lot of opinions on those--I evaluated all the choices and went with the TruGlo TFX HD sights, and couldn't be happier.
I just had my AEK/SCK installed.Like others, Apex from the start...

It reduced the take up marginally and the break is reduced to right at 5 lbs and much more crisp.
The main reason I got it was because of the abysmal factory reset. Now the reset is definitely more defined.
I wouldn't want to install the 3 lb trigger on it though, not for a CCW/SD gun.
OK, purchased new Shield today (In Louisiana its state tax free weekend and then the first of September we have a state and local tax free weekend Yeah!!). I put the Talon grips on with little problem. The only thing I would suggest to someone doing this would be have PLENTY of light. When I looked at the placement in really good light I got one of the circle logos just a little bit off center. I ordered an Alien Gear IWB and OWB holster since I could not find anything anywhere local. I haven't been able to fire it yet but it will be soon. I have looked over the RSA and it is not bent, made sure it was seated properly.

I put the APEX trigger on mine and I feel it makes a big difference shooting the gun. I have thought about changing the sights to something that I can see a little better sight picture with. But, the original sights work just fine so, I'm not going to be changing the sights right now or I may not change them at all. I have bought three different IWB holsters. I like a small canvas holster the best. The gun does not print with it. It makes it very concealable.I am going to buy one this next weekend (free tax weekend!!) and I have been looking for some customization.
