UPSET ABOUT THIS ISSUE WITH MY SHIELD

Interpretation is everything.... we all read it differently. I see a bunch of guys make suggestions on what may fix a perceived problem. Freaking out over a white dot, just doesn't cut it as a serious problem..... or a couple of guys that had to work at it to get their slide to just stop short of going into full battery..shoots fine, but.......:)

No doubt there are issues...well documented here and on other sites as well. I feel bad for anyone that has unexpected issues with a new gun. I get the frustrastration and disappointment. While problems do exist, I am sure they are great exception and not the rule.

I have both a .40 and 9mm Shield and my wife and I have shot hundreds of rounds through them. Imagine that...two Shields working great...and I don't even like Kool Aid!

Back to the OP's question: I suspect(I'm not certain, just a guess) that there might be a "V" shaped spring in the trigger that makes the safety re engage. I also suspect that spring may have broken and caused the problem. Call S&W and send the gun back. I'm sure they will fix it.

Most new guns have some teething problems. From what I have seen the Shield has done pretty good so far and problems seem to be minor or at least correctable. Both of mine have gone "bang" every time I pull the trigger so far. That's what I wanted when I bought it. As to the white dots falling out. I don't care anyway. Mine haven't, but I prefer plain black sights. My first gun shot low and both right and left when I got it. I called the factory, checked on new sights and after 300+ rounds it now shoots in the bottom half of the bull, but in the BULL. I admit it was me. I had a very similiar problem when I first got my G19 too. Old 1911 shooters, especially those guns with light triggers, seem to believe it is the gun because it couldn't be them - right?

All in all, I like my Shields and hope they hold up to the S&W reputation. For now I'm happy, but if they don't, I'll move on to something else like I've done in the past. That's just the way it works.

Regardless to the fact that I always replace my front sight, it upsets me that on the first rounds shot thru it the front sight dot falls off. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? I love my Shields but that does not imply that I will just tolerate flaws that show up because of lack of QC. I will remedy the issue one way or another an voice my issues and opinions on the matter.

Living in America still has some benifits!! I have 6 M&P's, more than one has lost the white dot... It just wasn't worth getting bent over to me... I already have way too much stress in my life. I'm not saying I didn't get upset, just didn't hang on to it for long. I build custom street\strip cars, nothing ever fits right... I used to go over the moon but found it easier to let someone know from the company that their part needed "tweaking" and then just went ahead and fixed it since most of the time, it was just a minor inconvenience.. that's just me..

Thanks for the heads up Fercho! We all know what the trigger safety should look like but I'm not sure anyone actually looks to make sure it's properly positioned.
I just purchased a 9mm Shield to replace my wife's .380 Bodyguard that proved to be a total *** with every possible malfunction and issue known to man.
I gave Smith another try because I absolutely love my 9c and am looking forward to breaking in the Shield with my wife this weekend. But, if this Shield exhibits the problems that I've seen on this forum I will absolutely rethink my future purchases. There are too many quality pieces out there to depend on products that are substandard. I'm hopeful and keeping my fingers crossed.

tomorrow morning 9am... I pick up my 9mm Shield... I can't wait. I want to go to sleep now so 9am will come sooner..:) As for the trigger, after 4 APEX trigger jobs, I may just do a little polishing myself and call it good.. clean up the sear, polish the striker, maybe tweak the trigger return spring... maybe I'll just put some of that super secret Savage moly and dri fire it 500 times and call it good... either way, I will have the best little 9mm for the money in my posession....

New 9mm Shield....First trip to range.

White dot on front sight missing. 100 rds FMJ flawless with both mags. Crisp trigger. Good group left of bull, even with sandbag. Have shot many different autos. Will adjust front sight. This will be my CC gun. Love the way it feels. Almost impossible to find in FL.
