So at what point does the ATF realize the epic failure they have perpetrated and put an end to this program? They have been running this operation for quite some time now and yet I don't recall any of the cartels being shut down recently. Hmmmmm? Maybe this is just another point on a long list of abuses and incompetence by the ATF justifying its closure? I am really not sure how they intended to build a case by selling weapons to Mexican cartels? Were they tracking the weapons electronically? If not then how do you know exactly when and where those weapons were used? Furthermore, how do you tie a particular gunman to a weapon that likely gets passed around a lot? This is an absolute travesty of law enforcement ethics! Even that piss ant Arpaio hasn't pulled a bone head move like this. Of course, this will get dealt with quietly. The agents at the bottom of the food chain will take the heat and the bosses will get promotions. Disgusting, just disgusting!
Oh, and don't forget that when the flow of "US" weapons into Mexico was first brought to the media attention the problem was blamed on lax gun laws, and all of us evil gun owning private citizens. Well suprise suprise, the problem was the ATF all along. Now, maybe the DEA can institute a similar program and start selling the cartels confiscated drugs back to them.
