Use .45 brushes to clean a .44 Mag?

After not having a revolver for a while, I bought one this afternoon...a Lew Horton 629 - 6 .44 Mag. (I'll be removing the lock as soon as I can order a plug.) Since I've only had .45s and 9mms for a while, that's all that I have in the way of bore brushes. Can I just use some of my .45 brushes to clean the barrel and chambers of the .44? I assume they won't hurt the barrel or the chambers since I mainly use nylon, and they compress (I do use brass on occasion if the gun is really dirty) but I wanted to ask just to be sure.

Your 45 brush will work in the 44 especially in the chambers. It will be a bit tight in the barrel though. Won't hurt anything except the brush.

I clean my 45 & when the brass cleaning brush gets smaller it will clean 44 -38 -32- 308-1 size fits all.If you cleaned the barrel 1.000.000.000.000 times it aint goin to hurt the barrel. Not true with the national debt. Then you can recycle.

I may eventually order some caliber-specific brushes, but it seems like I can wait until I need to order new brushes for all, and then get some .44s as well as .45s and 9mms at that time. For now I can use the .45 brushes I have.

I have used 45 brushes in my M29. No Problems!

I prefer the 45 brushes for 44 revolver chambers. A little wear and they fit the barrel just fine too.

When I'm shooting lead, I use .40 cal brushes in the .38s and .50s in the 625. Tears the brushes up after six or so uses, but gets the job done. Just seems quicker than lead cloth, and can use in blue guns.

I use the 45 cal rifle brushes, they work better than the shorter handgun brushes.
