Use your turn signal

True story here. Growing up my dad always had a pickup and mom a car. We went in to trade moms car in on a newer model, dad was doing his usual sales job on moms car being so well taken car of, then he added...the turn signals are like new, they have never been used!! Sad thing is he was probably right. For me, I use them religiously.

I've been told that using your turn signals is a sign of weakness. I was told that by my son, who we ALL know is smarter than his dad.

I can vouch for Floridians NOT using turn signals. They think they're the only ones on the road who matter. I despise waiting to turn right as you come along from my left, and then slow down and turn down my street without signalling. I would have turned long ago if I'd known you were turning.

No, in deep south Texas-the deeper you go-the worst it gets. I just had an idiot hit my rear bumper Thursday about noon-she was on her cell phone......

Funniest bumper sticker as seen in Florida:

WHEN I GET RETIRE I AM GOING TO MOVE UP
NORTH AND DRIVE IN THE LEFT LANE

Funniest one ive seen has nothing to do with this thread. But ill refrain from posting it anyway though my fingers wanna do so.:D

That's the odd thing about living in small town West Virginia.
People do signal but they seem to have no idea what "right of way" means. But in a good way
When you meet another car at a 4 way intersection, first they signal then they smile and wave the other guy through whether or not they have the right of way.
It's when we travel that people start acting like jerks.

We were traveling in Alexandria Virginia to visit with my wife's parents and I was complaining about people changing lanes without signaling. My wife reminded me that in Virginia, if you signal a lane change, that just tells the jerk in the other lane to speed up and cut you off.
"Yeah, well I'm driving a full size Dodge Ram and I signal."
And yes, I've had these jerks blowing their horns at me when I moved over anyway.

Here they just put their lights on bright then do as you mentioned.

The worst drivers in Florida came here from NY, NJ, MI, IN, MA. No turn signals and they all drive 60 in the left lane. The nicest are the folks from Ontario Canada where they use signals AND get out of the way.

Very good video on turn signals and quite frank.
I seen a guy the other day riding a motorcycle and actually giving a hand signal to turn. You don't see that much anymore.
Most of the younger generation don't even know what a hand signal is or how to use it. All they know is middle finger hand signal and that is a shame.

Being from PA I liked the PSA. Our state troopers are very professional, and they are obviously good at teaching the obvious.

Here in New Zealand the rule is 3 seconds signalling before pulling out from the curb, turning or changing lanes.

Modern cars have indicators which flash twice a second so 6 flashes should be the minimum. And yet the number of cars I see who signal only once or twice, or better yet flash once half way through a lane change, you wouldn't believe.

As for turning the head to check the blind spot before changing lanes, ain't that what the side mirror is for? Ah no!!!

And what about staying within a lane? Oh that's right, anywhere from the curb side wheel over the fog line at the side of the road and the drivers side wheel over the centreline is just fine by most.

I have driven all over the country and I think MI drivers are the worst for not using that mysterious lever on the steering column plus they do not look at surrounding drivers when merging into traffic.

It seems there are several levers, buttons and other such devices that drivers do not know what they are for. Possible uses are: turn signals, both left and right, light dimmer switch, even to turn headlights on or off........

I've driven in 49 of the 50 states and in a number of foreign countries. No place has worse compliance with turn signal use than Florida. We get the worst drivers from the eastern USA who use their turn signal the entire way in the left lane of the highway driving from Miami to Maine.

I have 50 years on clock and counting in Sunshine State I dont find the find the left in left lane as I find them not used at all. 38 years on motorcycles plus in this state has me at higher awarness

Interesting. In Nevada, just about everyone uses their turn signal, they just haven't figured out how to turn it off.

Also, just because they do use their turn signal, does not give them the right of way. They need to look first before changing lanes to make sure that another vehicle is not occupying that space.

There's that too. Love the idiots who see the spot in front of you big enough for a Civic and they think they need to whip their huge Dodge Ram in to it, signal or not.
