After reading Jinglebob's wonderful post here, I thought it'd be fun to talk about where we came up with our usernames.
This may have been on another, previous thread, but rather than bringing back a zombie, I figured I'd start a new one.

On the fishing sites I frequent, I'm Worm Drowner, as whenever I'd tell my dad I was going fishing, he'd comment "So, you're off to go drown worms again?". I decided to go with a different handle for my other favorite hobby, shooting. Longhorn1986 came about from my earning my undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin in December 1986 (wow! almost 30 years ago!). I earned my masters from the University of Houston in December 1990, but a user name of "Cougar1990" would make me sound like a dirty old lady!!

Let's hear your stories!

Yes its been done before but the forum evolves over time!

My handle on this forum is easy. I live in the peoples republic of northern NY. I also live by a big lake.(about a 100 yards away)

On a couple car forums and on those I use a Corvette derived handle. On the stock forums I use a name that has a financial ring to it.

Multiple choice:
1. I am a graduate of a Florida university?

2. I was thinking philosophically while joining the S&W forum, "We're all eventually gator bait."?

3. My boys were watching TV and Swamp People, the show with Troy "Choot 'em" Landry, was playing in the background while I was joining the S&W Forum?

4. I was too lazy to type out a long user name?

2, 3, and 4 are correct

Not now. I'll hurry up and do it even faster tomorrow unless I wait until the next day when I can do it even faster.

When I was signing up for my first online account, I was trying to think of a name. I looked out the back door and spotted my bass boat.

Cajun Bass Boat was too long.

Sorta sounds like an old west outlaw, don't you think?

Answers to routine questions about the name.

No, I'm not from and have never been in, Louisiana. (My wife lived in Plaquemine (the town), La. for a few years however.)

No, I don't play guitar or any other musical instrument.

LOL IIRC there have been at least two or three threads since 2005............................

Mix........

my Initials ....... a good looking, studly, 60's cartoon character....... with the fact I was on the College Rifle team........

led to the "Nickname" ; my then girlfriend, put on the back of our crew's Intramural Softball Team's Jersey ..........

So when I needed a on-line.......... nom de plume...... well why not!!!

I used to look like a sheepdog. A baseball coach started screaming that after I booted a ball back in the early 70s. I had quite a bit of hair then. My old buds have called me that ever since. Some pretender got sheepdog so I changed dog to dawg.

My avatar shows what I look like now except I'm getting a little closer to a Mexican hairless around the head. :D

drm not dream...

Unlike what most people guess, it's not a simply misspelling of "dream weaver" though that was on the radio years and years ago when I first used this nickname. Actually, "dreamweaver" was already taken on that particular site. So I changed the spelling and became drmweaver...

Oh wait, there's a "2" on the end of the current nickname. Of course there is... I couldn't recover that account's lost password after a system lockup so I had to re-register there. I simply stuck the "2" on the end to make things easy to remember.

So, where'd the "drm" come from other than the simple shortening of "dream"... To be honest, I've always been fascinated by acronyms and abbreviations. Those 3 letters happened to be an acronym that my buds and I used in conversation decades ago --- like F.U.B.A.R. was created and used during WW2. It was, and remains, just a local to us phrase and is totally meaningless to anyone who hadn't "been there" when it was first created...a very small population's in-joke".

As for the "weaver", I've always had an active imagination. Kinda helps you survive when you're assigned to remote military duty stations with no computers, radio or television (ex., MacMurdo, Adak, Sinop...). I used to disappear into the dark recesses of my mind and "weave" fantasies, invent things, figure out how I was going to kill my perceived enemies (usually my military superiors) in the most gruesome fashion (never happened though similar ideas have shown up in films!), and even tried for out of body experiences without drugs.

AND, I happen to like (used to collect samples of) weaving - carpets, blankets, other "woven" items. Some of the techniques and designs still fascinate me after all these years.

So, drmweaver2 is a multi-level amalgamation of a number of facets of and events in my life.

Ultimately, drmweaver2 has been my most frequently used nom de plume for at least 15 years but I'm pretty sure I first used it nearly 25 years ago.

my first name is dick

on the CB I used to be called The Blue Dick, as I drove a blue car. BUT then I changed to a red car...and the name became The Red Dick...but then a gal on the CB tried to make a date with me while my wife was in the car. After her hurricane passed, she told me to get a new name

so, since then, my passion for tropical rhododendrons, vireyas, has become my name
