USPS does it again.

I'll bet you wonder why they do this, too. Because it saves UPS and FedEx money, that's why. The USPS has to deliver to every address in the country...those other guys do not. The less final destination deliveries those companies have to complete, the more money they make.

It always takes only a couple of days longer!!!

I've had a few issues over the years but I'm still a Cheerleader for the USPS.
They do a great job for the price and you cant beat the speed.
I have lived numerous places across the U.S. in the past thirty years and have always known the Counter people by name at the Post office and they greeted me the same way.

They all have problems.....

No matter who you use, there is a potential for problems.

One thing I've noticed is that packages can jet back and forth all over the place and maybe end up landing where it's supposed to.

One time I got a notice in the mailbox "sorry we missed you..." bull sh!t. Wife was home all day as usual. I go down to pick up my package and the guy goes in the back and brings out my package and says: "I found some other packages that belong to you as well." And he hands me a bunch of other packages that were shipped months earlier. They just left them sitting in the back.

I have had the same issue several times this year with non gun deliveries. Everything goes on schedule until it gets to the main north shipping terminal in Houston. Then it can take another week to make it to my house. I am guessing the govt is making cuts in this area? But it's very bad and I will even pay extra now for UPS if I have that option when ordering. It's just not worth risking USPS. not what it used to be.

I've been ordering a lot of car parts lately as I'm working on an older Jeep Cherokee. One supplier from CA switch from USPS to FedEx and shipping time went from 2 days to 5 days to travel from CA to WA.

The worse though is I just ordered a part from TX from ebay. I'm in WA but I was charged sales tax! I found out WA state charges sales tax if sender uses a private carrier. Someone in Olympia, WA decided a private carrier constitutes as having a 'presence' in the state. What?!

So, every seller that sends item by private carrier (FedEx, UPS, etc.) to a WA resident has to collect sales tax then send funds back to Olympia? I wonder why the carriers don't protest this? If this persists, people in WA are going to ask sellers to send items by USPS instead.

Whining and Crying?

The sender is your problem here, not the USPS, I'd bet money on it. Note on 4/8, he sent the pre-shipment info to the USPS. That doesn't mean he sent the actual package, or told the USPS to pick it up. Chances are it sat in his office or wherever until 4/27. I don't wonder why the shipper won't answer you...he (they) know they screwed up.

Understand this, too: The USPS does not guarantee 2-Day Delivery on Priority Mail. They can't guarantee it, simply because they aren't the only people handling your package. Next time you mail a package Priority Mail, look at your receipt. It'll give you an estimated delivery day. It'll say something like "Delivery scheduled for such-and-such-a date."

Guess who flies your Priority Mail? And your regular mail? FedEx. UPS. And commercial airlines like Jet Blue, US Air, and any number of smaller feeder airlines. The postal service has no airplanes to fly mail from Point A to Point B. Zero planes. And the USPS isn't gonna put it on a truck and drive it across the country.

Guess what else? Airline planes have weight limits, just like tractor trailers. If that weight limit is reached before your little package gets on, it'll sit on the ramp until the next plane comes along...might not be for another eight hours. UPS is notorious for "hiding" mail at airports.

So next time you get all bent out of shape about slow mail service, take into account there's a whole bunch of folks you can blame for it besides the USPS.

If FedEx and UPS completely took over mail delivery, you folks would be whining and crying so loud, the sound waves would trigger a nationwide earthquake or something.

Hi Watchdog,

I think you had better re-read my post. It is simply a statement of my recent experience with the USPS. I would like you to please elaborate where in the post I "get all bent out of shape" or where there is "whining and crying" going on? I am confused?

You wouldn't by chance be employed by the USPS?

Exiled Cheesehead

Don't misunderstand me here folks. If you go back and look at my OP, you'll see that I believe that usually USPS does a fine job. My point is that when they do mess up, they make a big mess of it. They couldn't just miss by a town or two. Nope, it winds up at the far end of the country.
BTW: today's tracking shows it in Kent, WA. So at least its still moving.

There was never any doubt in my mind as to why they do it, it all comes down to the seller reducing costs! Why I cringe is my local mail delivery person not delivering the letter/package to the right address.
