Just shot a match yesterday and was setting down to clean my 625 today when I was struck by the handsome ugliness of a tool well used. As I set it up to snap a picture, I was reminded of the old drag racer's saying. So for your viewing pleasure...

What a hoot to shoot aren't they? Field courses are a little long for wheel gunners though as they are usually not very wheelgun friendly...but I love em' Usually use my 25-2 and a whole lot of moon clips.

The brass pickers just love you too don't they?

4 625's, a 25-2, a 686, a Model 10 and a Model 19 inbound. All except the 19 are set up for USPSA competition and every one gets a turn to play. S&W revolvers are addictive.

Great picture...........Revolvers look good clean but better when all sooted up from use. I wished there was a club close by in NW PA that would shoot something like that. I used to love the look of my Rem 3200 after a 500 bird doubles trap marathon.

Wheelgunning in USPSA with long cof's is a thinking man's game.

But I do have to ask, what's the odd growth hanging off the back of your hammer? Looks cancerous you should cut it off.

The course breakdown is probably what I like most about shooting round gun.

As for the spur, no beef with those that cut them off, but it's not for me. I get a touch over 6 pounds DA with a spur, and the weight of the trigger pull is not what is keeping me out of Grand Master... :p

Thanks for the comments guys!

Field courses can level the playing field. If you can take a second off your reloads, you can shave 5 seconds off a long field course. Use the things that appear to be a revolver weakness to make you strong (anything that doesn't involve shooting the gun should be done as fast as possible). And learn how to shoot on the move when it's advantageous (it isn't always).

My USPSA rig. The pistols are both 625s, 5" Models. The one in the CR Speed holster is my primary with a full Mike Carmoney race job done to it. The one in front is my backup with just a standard spring kit and polish job. The full race job can be finiky about primers but the backup will shoot factory ammo, no sweat.

I just use a stock 686 with round butt Hogue grip.

:D

625

Gotta add my 625-8 to the pile. Early PC w/ a full on Carmoney trigger.

When I started out, I wanted the gun to look nice.

After a while, I wanted some stability that the smooth grip didn't provide.

I ended up with a Ghost holster and the factory grips. They're no nonsense. They don't slide around in my hand.

Who cares what they look like.

I love that cylinder release. Sweet looking gun.

My normal USPSA revolver is a model 25-2 but its just been replaced by my recent acquisition which is a model 610 with a 6 1/2 inch barrel. This 610 is as sweet as I thought it would be.

Yesterday I shot the eastern regional ICORE match with my 627-5. After about 200 rounds of 158 gr. cast bullets powered by Clays the outside of the revolver was absolutely filthy. But inside the chambers there was no sticky residue and I could not find a single granule of unburned powder. The revolver functioned flawlessly and did not need to be cleaned during the match. Moonclipped .38 Special has come a long way.

Same results with my 627-5 only the powder was WST.

Nice match on a pretty good Sunday in July eh? They've stepped it up some over the last few years. A shame my shooting couldn't match the weather. :o

Yes indeed. Here in PA we have some of the best revolver shooters. Anybody who is at all interested in shooting revolvers and even those who don't take revolvers seriously should come out and watch Lentz and Olhasso shoot. Considering my 627 doubles as a concealed carry gun, I'm happy with how things turned out.
