I applied for a non-resident CCW permit from Utah in July.

Got the permit a couple days ago. Turn around time of about one month.

I live in CA, but have property in Idaho and Arizona and the Utah permit is good in both those states and a good number of other Western and Southern states (but not CA).

Perhaps I'll also get an Arizona permit at some point, but not sure there is any reason now that I have the Utah one.

My sister and I share a second home in Phoenix -- the house we grew up in and eventually inherited. Now I need to find a good way to move a couple guns there to have something to carry when in AZ.

Why not just move to Utah and be centrally located?

I am SOOOOooo done with California...

Only problem with the Utah permit is that they lost a few reciprocal states for non-resident permits. I still have it because it's cheap to renew but it doesn't cover as many states as it used to unfortunately.

Another plus for Utah's Renewal of CCW Permit's: I renewed my permit a few months ago with Utah (I live in Colorado) and it was an easy process. I provided an updated picture and submitted the renewal form (all online) and in just a few weeks, my renewed permit arrived.

Quick, easy and inexpensive.

down here in FL, we still have 34 states that honor ours... and i am a former CA resident. forget that freak fest of a state and get to Id or AZ, you wont look back. i didn't...

That's true, but renewal via mail makes things alot easier than having to show up like PA does.

If you are looking at traveling to Arizona or Idaho be aware that Nevada does not honor the Utah permit and, as of February of this year, does not honor the Arizona permit either. The Arizona permit used to allow you to carry in Nevada. I used to pull into the turnout 50 yards past the Kalifornia line to unlock my carry piece. ;=}

PA used to honor Utah until this year when the anti gun DA got in office and shut it down:mad: but that doesn't matter much to me because I have a PA CCP I only got the UT CCP so I can carry in Delaware witch is 10 min away and they don't honor PA. Then across the bridge in NJ is a whole different world....

Right. And another state I go to often, Oregon, doesn't accept any other permits. But it's "shall issue" so I guess I could get one there if I really wanted to.

Every once in a while, here in Kalifornia, we see a representative of an Oregon sheriff's office accepting applications here in the People's Republik.

Assuming these guns are legally owned and possessed in CA I'd recommend that you pack them in a locked container in the trunk of your car until you're safely out of that hellhole and across the State line into AZ. My understanding is this is a legal transportation method in any State. Once you're in AZ you're free and clear.

Just buy a couple in Arizona!?

It's "shall issue" for Oregon residents, but "may issue" for non-residents - the Sheriff having some flexibility in issuing/denying CHLs to non-residents. The trick is to find the gun friendly Sheriff to apply with.

Yes, thanks for the update.

Reading up on the subject, it seems Oregon will sometimes issue permits for non-residents from adjoining states (e.g., Cal, Wash, Idaho, Nev).

But you need a reason and it's up to the Sheriff of whatever country you apply in.

Some counties will issue, some won't.

And on the subject of Nevada, just a month ago they started accepting Idaho "Enhanced" CCW permits.

Idaho has a regular permit that is easy to get, but they also have an "Enhanced" permit that requires more class work and qualification.

Plus you have to be an Idaho resident for at least 6 months to get the enhanced permit.

But, in reading more carefully, it says that Idaho will issue an enhanced permit to non-residents if you have a currently valid ccw license in your home state. All the other classwork and quals are required just like for Idaho residents.

Since I own property in Idaho, and go there fairly often, I may try to get the enhanced permit as it covers Nevada.

This whole world of CCW permits is complicated, each state is different, and on top of that it changes monthly.
