I'm thinking about replacing my Magpul moe handguard with the UTG quad rail that says it fits our rifle. I'm not too worried about weight because I shoot from a bench. Thoughts?
P.S. If this has already been discussed send me a link please as my search function does not work with my tablet lol.

I went the UTG quad and I'm very happy with it. I was a little concerned when I ordered it, because it's not very expensive. I was afraid it might be an inferior product. I'm happy to report that is not the case at all. The part is well built and very solid when installed. There is absolutely zero movement or play in the quad rail on my rifle.

Weight is not bad at all and I feel like it was a good solution for me in terms of price, ease of install and function.

Is there a reason for a cheese grater? If not, save your money for a full float key mod as the magpul just works!

Cheese is out!

AP Custom carbon fiber free float. Expensive but the lightest on the market.Makes the Magpul I replaced feel like an anvil.

I have used just about every manufacturer known to guns. UTG is good on airsoft, air guns, and rimfire. Anything harder hitting will eventually break it. Also, quad rails are ungainly, heavy, and make shooting from anything but a bench a painful experience. Magpul drop in is a good option if you don't want to free float a hand guard. I have had nothing but good experiences with their products. You do pay a little more but you get a better product. You can also add their MOE rails if you want to add specific accessories, like a bipod.

Sounds like a lot of the comments are more concerned with weight (which you're not concerned about) than quality (which you are concerned about). I will say that I put a UTG quad rail on my 556 and have been pleased with it over about 500 rounds. Its not going to break, its aluminum. Also, it is a quad rail so its not smooth like the Magpul, but I work for a living so I don't have baby-soft hands like some people that are worried about it cutting them up. If you are, get some covers or wear gloves, easy fix. All told, I would just get the Magpul rails to mount if you already have the Magpul handguard; that would be cheaper and allow you to mount whatever you want. If you want a different look and don't want to break the bank, get the UTG. I've got a few other of their products as well and have no complaints. Its not like you're buying a car from them, its just a handguard, not any moving parts to break... its machined aluminum.

UTG rails are heavy and some have exhibited quality control issues.

Quad rails in general are heavier, larger and more expensive than smooth handguards. I also don't want to have to add rail covers which add more expense, weight and girth. I also do not want a rifle that set up so I'm required me wear gloves to shoot it comfortably.

It's your rifle, it's your money but while UTG handguards are cheap, they add weight and girth for no advantage, are outdated and are unrefined

I think I'm going to stick with the Magpul for now. I was going to put it on a different rifle I just bought but I have changed my mind. I'm not ready to free float it. Thanks for the responses.

I have the MOE hand guard at this time. I believe the M-LOK is the future. I am waiting for that.
