Back in April on the advice of one of my VA Nurses, my wife applied to be my caregiver due to my disability. We received notice today that her application was approved. She will get just under $2,000.00 a month as my caregiver, and she will get back pay to April which will be over $7,000.00. If any Vets are on VA disability and need assistance from your wife, girl friend, etc., for your care, I urge you to look into this program.

I've heard they take your guns.
The only thing the VA wants is for you to lock up your guns when a Nurse, Therapist, etc. come to the house. No mention whatsoever of the VA taking my guns.
My gun room is in the basement and I hadn't been down there for months. One of my therapists wanted to know what my hobby was, so I told him I collect guns, reload when I can, but have problems getting to the basement. The VA had a stairlift installed so I could get down to the basement to pursue my hobby. Does that sound like they want my guns?

My dad, a Vietnam Vet, didn’t utilize the VA until later in his life. When it came time for him to really need their services, even though a real pain to get in the system, the program as a whole was awesome. They gave him and my mom so much support, from ramps, handles, bathroom remodels etc, to hearing aids and everything in between. I wish I would have known about the aide at the time, as my mom was his full time caregiver.
