Hey Guys,
Earlier this month you helped me run down a 686 with a logo I did not recognize. With your knowledge I contacted Lew Horton and he furnished me with a letter of authorization for the gun. I may sell it for a past friends' wife but have no idea what to ask IF she decides to sell. The gun was given to me by her after my friend passed away but when I found out it was a Performance Center gun, I told her it had to come back to her as the value was worth more then we had thought. She may decide to sell and trying to help her out.
This Performance Center 686 is a 7 shot with 3" bbl and night sights. It was one of 366 units delivered to Lew Horton during 1996 and 1997. This gun has beveled cylinders, chamfered charge holes, and very good tuned action and thumb latch. Do not think it has ever been fired and does not have the paw mark on the cylinder and believe it is NIB. It has the original box but no papers.
I am at a loss as to where to turn to find a value on this gun.
I know the blue book says a tad over a grand but local folks say its worth more. Since those on the board helped me track the gun down, hopefully someone can give an estimate of what it may be worth.
Thanks,
Chuck

I've no idea what it's worth generally, but while I hunted for a 3" 686+ a couple of years ago, my husband got me the 2.5" PC 686+ to tide me over until we found a 3". It was just under a grand. For me, the 3" you mention would be worth at least as much.

This is not a garden variity M686. When this gun was discussed not long ago, I think we determined it was a 170074. There are a number of similar variations that differ in the details. All made in small numbers. Value with an educated seller and buyer, with box, in pristine condition, I'd guess is somewhere in the range of $1,500 to $2,500 in today's market. I've seen similar PC guns go for more.

Kernel,
That is the Lew Horton add I was referring to. The gun is identical.
I appreciate your effort on finding that information. You helped me earlier find the info I needed to get to Lew Horton. Thanks..
Bigwheel, I also appreciate your taking the time to give me estimates. Will be interesting to see what the owner does as it is up to her now. Have found some guns of this type that have sold for over $3,000 + and perhaps some for $4,000 but that is heresay and not something that I observed myself.
Again, I can't thank the folks on the forum enough for the information that they have given me and that will go a long way to helping someone out a great deal.
Thanks for taking the time,

Chuck
