Value of a "very good" 1006?

on our local trader there's what appears to be a gorgeous 1006. It's in the box with all paperwork, comes with two mags plus a Hogue grip (and the original), and 50rds of ammo. The seller is describing it as "very good, 90%+) which I think is accurate, if not conservative in looking at the pics. What would be a fair price for this? Even though I don't shoot 10mm, if I could mortgage a kidney or something I'd love to have this.

IMO anything less than $600 is a bargain. I paid $700 for mine about a month ago, I live in California and with the law here it is hard to find a 1006 for sale so they bring a premium.

Remember the 1006 has been out of production for a long while now, and it is unlikely that S&W will make any more in the future.

10mm is a great cartridge, but ammo prices will run high so it is more favorable for one to handload this caliber.

he's at $750 on it which would be a little steep for me (even if I had the money) for something I wouldn't shoot much.

OH yes you would , 10MM is very easy (and cheap ) to reload for .......I got mine 2 years ago , after looking for one locally for 2 years

It's worth that much. I paid closer to 8 for mine. Was 8 too much? Probably. Do I have a 1006 that I love/no longer have to search for? Yep!!

I have had my 1006 for a few months. It was my first S&W auto. It was not my last. I purchased this gun simply because of the price and condition (very low by comparison). Had never shot a 10mm before. It is an AWESOME caliber. I load for it and cost are little more than 40s&w since I like em hot. I did not care for the factory grips and added Hogues. It has become one of my favorite guns. Not exactly a summer carry (bulky/heavy) but I believe it would be a one shot defensive gun if I could do my part. I believe the FBI turned down the 10mm in favor of the 40s&w simply because it worked and we cannot have a government agency making a sound decision.
If you get it I am sure you will be happy.

I have a 1006 which I ordered and bought new when such things were possible. I don't know about giving up my left arm first, but it is the gun which they will have to pry from my cold dead fingers.
Seriously, I have a 1076 which is a better CCL gun and perhaps a bit better balanced in my hands, but the 1006 with the adjustable sights and added heft is exactly what I would reach for if serious work was at hand.
It has always functioned well, came from S&W tight and with a good trigger. Load it with high energy Double Tap, and you will be ready.

Between 600 and 700 would be reasonable for this weapon. It is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. You will enjoy shooting it if you reload which I strongly recommend. I have 2-1006's, a 1076, and a 1066.

I paid $700 for mine... might have paid more, being I really wanted one. Very good pistol!

I'm considering another one, being I have a s***load of magazines for it. If so, a 1066 or 1076.

I too am in the 1006 and 1076 crowd. If you reload it's a really fun round. The 40 S&W (slow and weak) is to the 10mm what the .38 is to the .357. You can load it mild or wild.

I got my mint condition 1006 at the gun show back in may. $525 cash and I might have paid even more than that for it, but I feel pretty lucky considering that they are hard to find in my neck o the woods. Mine has the Novak sights, but I really would like to find one with the adjustable sights. It's a never ending thing. 10mm rocks.

ok here it goes. my first post in a forum. i am looking to buy a 1006 in california. if any one can help please call me at 805 218 3000. also i could have the gun shipped to nevada. but prefer one that can be sent to my house in california. i am looking for one that has been siting in a safe with all the originally paperwork, mags and no modifications. i would like it to be from an orginal owner to verify low round usage. i prefer fixed sights. most have the adjustable from what i have seen for sale. lets see what you guys can do for me.

Is the adjustable sight version with rabbit ears or the fixed sight version with Novaks the preferred model? Is the fixed sight Novak model from the later production runs?

Did any of the 1006s come with Hogue rubber grips from the factory? Did any ever come with white follower mags?

Does anyone know what the range of serial numbers are from the first production to final run?I'd like to get an idea when a particular 1006 was manufactured and what's factory and what isn't.

It is the shooter's choice on whether they like adjustable sights or fixed. I prefer the 3dot, but would never pass up nice 1006 if it didn't have them. I fairly certain the Novaks were available from the beginning. Hogue grips are aftermarket grips. Yes on the white followers. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Both the adjustable sight and the Novak type fixed sight were available from the beginning of production. First gen magazines have a yellow follower, late production magazines are white follower and marked "accu guide" on the mag body. IIRC S&W produced the 1006 from 1990 through 1993, a second run of 1006 was done at some time in the late 1990's and these are different in appearance. Most notably the trigger and hammer are blue/black in the later production run.

I have an adjustable sight 1006, I thought I really wanted the fixed sight pistol but this one has grown on me very nicely.
