value of pre 27 in pawn shop

"The front sight may not be correct, as I have read posts that said most 6.5" models had ramp front sights."

You must have misread those posts, as most of the 6" and 6 1/2" revolvers have the Patridge front sight.

Hey Joel - I really like your new revolver. You got a classic pre-model number N frame for about half of what the new (and much lower quality) version would cost you. I would have been all over it for that price, too.

I bet it shoots like a champ.

here is a 6.5" Pre-27. Front sights look ok. Here is a close up of the rear sight and I'm not sure yours are wrong. I also have those drag marks you mentioned.

These things shoot...wonderful!

Note the rear sight overhangs the rear the same amount that the front is short. It is possible that when it was reinstalled it was screwed into a different hole. Or, the original hole was striped and a new one was drilled & tapped. I can't identify the slightly strange drag mark, I have an older 38 top break with similar drag mark, and don't know the cause.

S&W moved the location for the front screw of the rear sight. My guess is that the rear sight assembly you have is "the other one" they used.

Measure from the front edge of the sight body to the center of the screw and we can tell you what you probably have and what you probably need.

The front of the rear sight body never reached all the way to the front edge of the frame/rear end of the barrel, there was always a gap; that is why they checkered inside the top strap groove.

From the screw hole to the back of the top strap, (where the sight blade assembly butts), is just under 2". Look at all those scope mount holes!
