Walmart sells Federal Value Pack .22 lr., 550 count, which I've found to be accurate, reliable, and reasonably clean.

There's a large shop not too far away which has a sale going on Federal Champion Bulk Pack, 525 count.

Both are loaded with 36gr. copper-plated hollow points.

Is this the same ammuntion in both boxes, or do the Champions have a different powder or something? I like sales, but I like to be sure of what I'm getting.

Pardon me if this has been discussed already -I'm a little short on time today to do a search.

Thanks for your assistance.
Andy

P.S. The store also has a sale going on CCI Blazers, which have a still lower price than the Federals. I have no experience with these. Maybe someone would like to educate me on them; how they differ from the Federals, and so on. Thank you.

The 525 and 550 packs contain the exact same rounds. The only difference is the box, 550 Value Pack is for Wal-Mart. CCI Blazer is just as good as Fed bulk in most guns.

A quite common practice that is not exclusive to the gun or ammo industry. MANY Companies have "different" lines of products to gain market share.

Here is my take:

For instance let's look at the American Eagle and Federal ammo.........My feeling is that the different colored boxes contain exactly the same ammo. It would cost the Company way too much to have two separate assembly lines to produce the same caliber ammo, so they just change the packaging. They do this for several reasons. First is that they do not want to "cheapen" their regular or so called PREMIUM line by lowering the prices, so they come out with the same ammo but repackage it and say it is their "practice ammo" line. This way they can sell it for slightly less without loosing profits and "cheapening" their Premium ammo line.

The second reason is now they have two products out in the market place, so you are more likely to buy one of their products.

Ford/Mercury. Chevy/Pontiac, Dodge/Plymouth, I think you will get the point I am trying to make.

I just recently purchased a new Central A/C unit. After doing some research, I found out that there are only three main manufacturers producing residential size units, but there are dozens of brand names. Well, if you read the fine print, one will discover that the three main manufacturers put different names on the same units - gains them market share and allows them to sell their PREMIUM name brand with a fancy cover or nice paint job for a LOT MORE $$$$. The lower cost units are the same exact units in a plain green painted cabinet without all the TV advertising and hype. Same specs, same energy efficiency, same product - lower cost!

I was in retail/wholesale business for 35 years and have experienced this practice every single day!
