Leaving shortly for a 4 day three night trip to sin city to celebrate my Big 60 B'day. Called Monte Carlo for a deal and based upon our last trip a couple of years ago they are cutting us a sweet deal, a Monaco (700 square foot), Suite for $65 a night. I got 2 Deluxe rooms for our friends who are flying in from San Diego to help with the festivities for $39 a night. All in all not too bad for a $5 player. (o; Not sure I'll get rich but am certain we will all have way too much fun. Wish me luck... ain't get old a bitch?

Enjoy and see the sights. Wife and I spent a week at the Palms last Spring. Hit all the big ones and all the old ones. Great times....

did the same thing at the same hotel last year for my 60th.check out "vegas luxury rides" for a neat car rental for a day or more. nothing like driving the strip at night with the top down in a great car.

If you want some great Mexican food, and you haven't already, be sure and eat at Diablo's Cantina right there on the strip in front of the MC.

If possible make sure to take some S&W protection with you just in case. Please have a safe trip and let us know how it went when you return.

I manage to go there on business a couple of times a year. Vegas can be fun but it can be boring too. If you like to take pictures you can get some good views from the top of the Stratosphere, although the Fountainbleau fiasco gets in the way. And the best view of the fountains at Bellagio is from the top of the Eiffel tower at Paris.

Not sure why people still call Vegas Sin City. I was in New Orleans last month and stayed in the french quarter for a week. Saw a lot more sin there than I ever saw in Vegas.

Nowhere do I see mention of bringing the wife. Good job ;)

Go see Jubilee... Burlesque at its best.

Here is a tip...buy stadium seats. Get there early, and get drinks at the upper bar. Tip the bartender large. Someone will find you and escort you down to the floor tables....front row, baby...

Best view in the city....

In my experience some of the most diverse and interesting people end up in Vegas and Reno. Most become dealers and pit people...Sadly now a lot of them are unemployed and crime has risen in both Reno and Las Vegas. Something about a 24 hour town that fascinated me. Go shop at 2am , My experience was in the 80's but have visited regularly until about 4 years ago.....A friend that was a regular bought a house out in Vegas as a rental saw it go from 137K to 250K and he sold now it could be bought from the bank at 130K Weird.....Vegas was "I thought" recession proof....Shows what I know......

I'm baaack....

We had one hell of a trip and learned a few things which I will share. Hands down the "Mother" of all Buffet's is now to be found about 10 miles south of the south end of the strip at the "M" Casino. Rated the best in the history of Vegas it goes for $15.99 for the brunch 10:30 to 2:30, and includes all the beer and wine you want. Been doing Buffets for decades and have never seen anything half as good as this one. I can't even begin to imagine what the dinner buffet looks like.

We got the tip on the Buffet from our host at "The Gun Shop" where we started my birthday out with the Thompson M1A1 45 caliber Sub Machine gun, full auto of course. We had a choice of 10 different autos including Uzi's and Mac tens but it just had to be the Thompson. There at least a dozen places to shoot full auto's not far from the strip. For $50 you get 50 rounds, 2, 25 round mags and we smoked those targets. I'll post a pic when I get them from my buddy. Monte Carlo was awesome as ever and not too crowded until Friday with the National Rodeo moving into town, whole bunch of real (and wannabe), cowboys/girls and as always lots of eye candy to be enjoyed.

Spent about 10 hours a day, each of the three days down in the casino, mostly playing craps, roulette and a few slots and only lost a couple of hundred so I definitely had my fun. Never got way ahead or down, they comped us about $100 of food and fun. We invited our best friends (two other couples), to join in the fun. One guy never gambles and his wife not very much. She decided to play the penny slots so I explained the one inviolate rule of slot machines: Always, I mean ALWAYS! place the maximum bet. The good news: On thursday night she hits a penny machine for $4,000! The not so good news: She was betting 30 cents a pull, not the 90 cent max bet..... it was one of half a dozen machines tied together with a progressive payout of, would you believe $218,853????? Monte Carlo really dodged a large bullet on that one.

We all look forward to going back...just not real soon. Man that town is intense! Used the non losings from my gambling stash to buy a new cell phone and a Samsung tablet today. Now if I could just figure out how to operate the darned things... it's always something. Now that I am officially 60 i only have one thing to say: Gimme my damned discount!!! (o;

I like the older Vegas. The first time I went was in November of 1985. I was by myself and had contracted to fly to Thousands Oaks, California to drive a stolen car back to Mississippi. I didn't make a lot but didn't care as I was going to see some stuff on the way home that I had never seen. I told the folks I was bringing the car not to be in any hurry because I wasn't going to be as I had already planned my detour through Las Vegas. The car I was driving was a 1985 Oldsmobile Toronada. It had 2500 miles on it which was about the distance from the lot it was stolen from to where it was recovered.

I rolled into town around 11:00 p.m. and got a cheap room in an older motel on the strip. It's no longer there as it was torn down and replaced by some billion dollar rig that is probably in the early stages of bankruptcy now. I went to the Sands and spent seven hours playing 10's or better video poker and finally gave up $1300 later and retired to my room for several hours of sleep. I went sightseeing and pawnshopping the next day and found a lot of really neat stuff. I was walking down the strip the my second night there and I saw couple arguing. Expletives were flying pretty good and it ended up the guy walking off and telling her to find her own way home. She sat down on a bus stop bench and he left headed toward downtown. I watched for a few minutes to see if he was going to come back. He didn't. I sat down beside her and graciously handed her one of the cold beers that I had purchased while watching the spat.

She took the beer and thanked me. I asked her how she was going to get home and she told me she didn't know. She said they had come out there to get married and he backed out and blamed her. I asked where she lived and she said just outside Shreveport, La. I told her I would be going through there day after tomorrow and would she like to go see one of the shows. Her face lit up and she gave me a hug. We had a wonderful evening and I didn't have to drive home most of the way by myself. I was even nice enough to let her drive some. I kept in contact with her for a couple of years until she got married. (not to the guy that left her) I've been back to Vegas quite a few times since, but that first visit there will always be the best.
