I have had a week that was so unreal I couldn't possibly cover it here. Ended up being sent home yesterday because I "might be a contact for C19." I cook when I'm knocked off course. My neighbor moved away last week, got rid of his freezer and handed over maybe 30 lbs of deer he killed a couple months back. I took 6 lbs vegetables and 3# cube steak, 3lb "hamburger" and 2 lb sausage links in a 12 qt pot. Smells wonderful, hard to wait for 5pm done time. I would have liked to throw a package of "spicy cheese beer brats" in for good measure but then my "lactose intolerant" wife can't partake so they'll go on the grill. I'll miss the yearly "care packages" but folks gotta go where they need to be. Joe

Oh man, that looks freaking awesome! As I sit here in a very snowy and cold Michigan, I'm contemplating something very similar this weekend. Just the inspiration I need!

Oh man, like 'ol Soupy Sales would say: "So good your brains will fall out!" I'm still full 4 hours later but then I went back for seconds. My wife ate a plate which is rare as she avoids meat like it's bad. Gonna be eating stew for most of the weekend, at least I don't need to cook after tomorrow's "gunshow" (quotes are because it's actually a traveling Shoot Straight store but I have no better plan). Funny thought: How come no hunter ever gives away backstraps? My guess is they never make the freezer. I've never been a hunter but I know a bit about "feral thought." Joe

I just made a deer burger stir fry with
onion / carrot / celery / riced cauliflower / shredded cabbage

A sparing amount of stir fry sauce took the "gamey" edge off the burger. My wife said it's the best venison dish she's ever had.

My wife made lamb stew in the crock pot yesterday. Sorry I can't post any pictures - it didn't last long enough for me to pull out my phone! :D

Stews of almost any kind are my favorite cold-weather foods.
