Recently I was invited by the town police chief to go to the qualification with the officers. I showed up yesterday with my 4013 and expected anything.

The officer made me feel welcome and I was able to go through the daytime and nighttime qualifications with them. I have never done anything like this and it was a blast. I am sure this is "normal" and boring for most LEOs, but for me it was very cool.

I left feeling ok about my abilites, with some things to work on, and more prepared to react with my pistol if needed. I wish everyone who CCWs or even just wants to be more prepared for home defense could have this experience. I hope I get invited again.

We go to the range every quarter. Sometimes day shooting & sometimes low light to night firing. I always enjoy it.

You are one lucky guy to live in a community where such an opportunity exists. I'm envious. While respectful of law abiding citizens with CC permits, don't think such an opportunity would exist in my town unless you knew somebody high up in the local PD. You should feel privileged.

I used to go with my dad in the early 80's before he retired from the city PD. They carried model 64's back then.

Night qualification before tritium sights was a bitch. The only light was a rotating red light. Trying to hit a black silhouette target at 25 yards with almost no light sucked. The course was timed so you couldn't wait for the red light to move a cross your target every time. So you tried to line up your sights the first time the light crossed your target then fire the rest of the rounds where you hoped the target was.

Hmmm, interesting that they would have you shooting into the darkness at a target that you can't verify. Where I come from knowing/seeing what you're shooting is one of the primary rules of engagement.

With regard to the OP, I love weapons training and qualifying, it's always a good time.

At our club NPCCC we help the local PD's-ICE,FBI train. We just had

one of our night shoots. We also have LEO 3 gun matches to raise

money for their charitys. Shooting qualls with them is fun and helps

your training. 8th

Mattkcc: I'm from the same generation of cops. Night shoots were hell.

Light bars flashing and target appearing on occasion. Thank God it wasn't for real as there was always more light around the shooter than the "perp".

In real life you could identify the threat; shooter, that would be the person who was standing behind that "muzzle flash" you just zeroed in on assuming the "perp" missed.
