In 1942, as now, Jamaica, NY was part of New York City and the NYPD was the police department. My Dad worked in the 103PCT in Jamaica for almost half of his 37 year career with the NYPD.

This happens occasionally with letters. I'm positive that Roy and Don double-check and copy carefully exactly what they find in the records, so it's got to be the S&W records themselves. I have an M&P that lettered as shipped to the "Mineola Police Department, NY" in 1947. The problem is that there had been no such department since 1928, when they were absorbed by Nassau Co. PD. And the guy at Britt Firearms in Mineola who sold me the gun insisted he bought it from a retired NYPD officer, although the serial does not show up in Robert Vivas' ledgers. So I still don't know where it was actually carried.

Thank you for your response. Was your Father there in 1942 ?

I believe he was. He graduated from the Police Academy in December 1941 and I think he was assigned directly to the 103. Drafted in 1943, back to the 103 in 1946. Drafted for Korea in 1952, back to the 103 in 1953 until 1959 when he became a SGT and was transferred to a job at the 75 in Brooklyn.
